Dug up an old nes in good condition and am attempting to connect it to my Mitsubishi HD projector. The video looks surprisingly fine when projected, but I can't any sound to play from my stereo receiver. Tried different RCA's cables and also tried plugging the mono into different phone/tape and Cd imputs still....no sound.

I was in love with the original nes and haven't played since high school, seeing the original mario brothers light up my whole wall with no sound is killing me! Any suggestions on how I can get audio?

Both those sites give instructions on modding your NES to output "stereo" sound. Since the signal is coming straight from the CPU, there should be nowhere else for it to get lost in the system if you output from these. I'd at least try it to see if the sound will come from the pins. If you don't get any sound from there, I would say something in the CPU is damaged.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link Chad, looks like a good mod to stereo. For now I'd be thrilled to just get any kind of sound though. I hear ya....with sound coming straight from the cpu where could the sound be escape in the system? Funny thing is, I tried another nes as well thinking maybe just the audio jack was loose or broken on one, and got the same thing........just a low hum when I turn up the volume. I'm not sure I know what you mean by getting sound from the pins?

The whole thing seems to simple......but I'm puzzled...

Wait wait wait. You should atleast here the mono sound coming from the side mono audio connector to your stereo. It's more amplified than the pins from the CPU.

Check to make sure the amp is even working, like connect that same cable to a CD player, etc...

Thanks for the help, I think the cpu must have been broken on one nintendo, I tried the other unit with a different RCA cable and voila.....beautiful 8 bit sound!
I'm totally hooked in again, so I'm sure I'll be in search of double dragon, kid icarus, metroid and all my early loves. See you around the forum-

Try that different cable on the other NES again, make sure it wasn't the cable.
