Funny that the company that created Magical Chase is called "Quest"....and mine was beyond that:
I have been searching high and low for YEARS (easily over a decade) for this game. I saw it in an auction once for BIN $10 a few years ago, and I hit buy it now....but it was already purchased in those couple of seconds! ARGH.
It didn't spring up that often in the past few years, but when it did, I always seemed to miss out. Missed on an auction or two...missed out when Joe sold one...but now...
I finally have it! Mint hucard and mint manual...no box. That is just fine by me honestly. I feel somewhat complete tonight :) I will not devulge the amount paid, as I would like to be spared the ridicule...but it was NOT cheap. Still, mission complete!

That was the final game in my complete Turbo Grafx / Duo library. I paid $150 for a mint complete copy and have no regrets. That was YEARS ago though. :/
Totally worth it though, I heart that game.

I have to wonder really how many copies exist. No doubt it is a rarity, but there have to be quite a few people on here that own one...I can think of a few already and added you to the list as well :)

Is it actually a fun game, or is it just really rare?

Congratulations!
It took me forever to find my copy, too... not a decade, but definitely years. Did you snag that one that was just on ebay?
And yes, it's a very fun game. Definitely pushes the Turbo's graphics to its limits. Plus, it has a number of upgrades from the Japanese version in the graphics department. I definitely prefer it to Cotton, but there are other "non-witch" themed shooters on the system that are probably better games.

It is both. I got my copy from Joe this past year and I am absolutely loving it. The DP guide write up about it is spot on.

ya its a great feeling when you get eh? congrats
It took me many years as well and i gave up on it at one point and i swear shortly after that it found me :) I ended up trading for it but would have paid up to $200 for a loose card had i had a chance to buy it.
When it arrived in the mail and i had the game box in hand i got that goooood sex feeling :P …plus the extra bonus of it being a good game.
congrats again man.

Both. I would put Magical Chase into my top 20 favorite TG games list.

I guess it is this listing: 280271200190
The price is very high, but if it makes you happy, then it's worth it.
I would have been happy for a minute before dying of cardiac arrest... :)

Yeah, that listing. It was double what I ever originally thought I would pay, but heck, I was going to trade off a PSP Slim and a DS Lite for it...so it kind of equals out to what I was going to do anyway. I tried to find someone with a copy willing to sell or trade for a long time now, but nobody wants to part with it...and I really can't blame them.
I actually have had "Magical Chase" as a saved ebay search and it has been habit just to search it every day for quite a few years. I saw the last auction end at the same amount, and I just couldn't take the chance of waiting it out to see whatever the next auction goes for.
Yes, I am very happy to have acquired it. Now that it is in my possesion, it'll never leave me...even if I sell off other videogame related stuff. It just took WAY too long to get ahold of this...goddamn!

Is that Quest the same company that made Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre and such? If it's really the case, then I don't doubt its quality, but talk about a big change in genre and theme.

Shame that such a good game is so hard to find and so expensive.
Is the Japanese version any cheaper/easier to find?

Congrats Zektor!
IMO im sure you paid a decent price for it, its one of those games that is definately worth the price tag no matter what condition!
:( *sob* I have to make do with it on a PCE Flash Card :-P

It is, but still pricey!

Congratulations on getting MAGICAL CHASE!!
Years ago I remember walking into my local Electronics Boutique (EB Games) and seeing that game on the wall. I think it might have been $39.99. I passed on it because I thought I should be saving up for more SNES games. TG-16 was basically dead. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought all their copies! Been kicking myself ever since!
Congratulations again!

In their pre-Ogre-Battle days, Quest made a few action games, including Conquest of the Crystal Palace for the NES and Battle Ping Pong for the Game Boy, alongside RPGs like Dungeon Kid.
Is it true that the GameBoy Color version of Magical Chase is also rare?

Thanks! Yep, I remember going into Electronics Boutique and seeing it as well. I had a Turbo Duo at the time and passed on it. I was much more into the Genesis at the time and probably purchased Shove-It or something that day. You just never know what you'll be kicking yourself for down the road...

Isn't this game mostly hard to come by because one guy bought like every copy on ebay for upwards of 500 bucks each?

Unlikely. The game has always been extremely rare. It is listed in the DP guide as R9, if that tells you anything.

Late to the party on this thread but congrats! :)
I've been in the same boat. I was in a Babbages and they had the game on the shelf. I had the game IN MY HAND along with Neutopia II. Long story short, I picked Neutopia II instead and when I went back, Magical Chase was gone. I've been on the hunt for it ever since.
I've come close a few times. I've managed to snag the PC Engine version as well as the Gameboy Color version but I still pine for a CIB US release. Oh well, mebbe someday. :wink 2:

Between this and Cotton which one is better and why? I've "heard" this is better than Cotton but nobody has told me to the extent. I know Cotton is supposed to be fun on the Saturn.
