Hey guys. I have been out of the MAME scene for awhile. I was never much of an expert with it so I liked the ease of MAME32. Now I have some free time on my hands and I would like to set up a dedicated PC system with MAME. Is MAME32 dead? If so, are there any MAME front ends that are simple to use? I never even used a FE before, just MAME32.

MAME32 is still very much alive and kicking, but just under a different name -- now it's referred to as MameUI. Point your peepers over to this location:

I assume the name change came about now that MAME supports 64-bit OS's, and calling it MAME3264 would've been a little cumbersome. :p

I think they just changesd the name to MameUI. I rarely ever use either though and use Mamewah as a front end though it can be a pain to set up if you havn't done it before. The console version is much more user friendly now, btw. Just running the program will bring up a list of games that you can choose from.

I never thought that MAME32 was a good name. It implies the existence of a MAME16 or something.

Last I heard, MAME had been sharply departing from user-friendliness. Did that all blow over?

Thanks, everyone. I wish I had the time to learn how to get a cool FE up and running and so forth, but I just don't have the time, so I'll stick with MAMEUI for now. I just broke out the 'ol Hotrod joystick out of the basement, picked up a free 19" Sony CRT monitor off Craigslist (they are giving these things away now, much to my pleasure) and I am excited to start reliving some classic arcade memories. :)

Oh, btw, how do I tell if I need the 64bit version or the 32bit version? I have Vista. I am assuming it is NOT 64 bit, but I am not certain.

Which version of Vista? Likely the 32-bit version works with either...

Vista Home Premium. Oh, ok, I just checked my computer and it says it is a 32 bit OS. Thanks!
