Well, this weekend marks the beginning of a week-long video game bash with one of my college buddies (we do this twice a year).
So, I finally took the plunge and got a 360 Pro. I picked up Halo 3 for $35 and Perfect Dark Zero for $5 (can't pass that up). I'm assuming ATLEAST Halo has offline co-op, as the two prequels did. Seems to me that offline co-op is becoming a dying breed with so many games going online these days, but it's still fun sitting in a room with a buddy and ripping through campaign missions and whatnot.
Anyone have any good recommendations? Think I'll rent the first Gears of War. I heard Crackdown is awesome fun co-op, but I think it's online only? Can anyone confirm?
BTW - We aren't relying on the 360 for all our gaming needs this upcoming week. We usually hit up games on pretty much every system... so I really only need 1-3 GREAT 360 games for when we're in the mood to play something "new school."
Thanks!

Depending on your preferred type of game, you can go for Star Wars Battlefront 2 or also James Bond: Nightfire (not so much Everything or Nothing, which doesn't have a 2-player mode as good as Nightfire's).
If you like hack n slash, there's X-Men Legends 1, 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, as well as Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
I know these aren't Xbox 360 titles, but they are PS2/Xbox and even GameCube titles (in some cases).

Crackdown is online co-op.
GRAW 1 and GRAW 2 can be offline co-op.
Halo 3 I believe as well.
The truth is though, if you got a 360 you should really take it online for co-op play.

gears coop is a blast.
and despite the bad reputation it got, my friend and i had a lot of fun going through kane & lynch together.
and +1 vote for local coop. i prefer it greatly over online coop. of course that may have something to do with how laggy my satellite broadband is. ;)

Beautiful Katamari keeps the co-op mode from the last game, but that might be bad, depending on what you think of co-op Katamari...

Rainbow Six Vegas 1, 2
GRAW 1, 2
GoW
Army of Two
UT3
Kane & Lynch
Halo 3
Lego Star Wars II/TCS/Indiana Jones
PDZ
Monster Madness...?
The Simpsons
Those are the ones I can come up with off the top of my head, not saying that they're all worth playing but you're somewhat limited in your options...
I DO want to mention one game that not many people throw around the name of though... Earth Defense Force 2017. This game remains one of my favorite 360 titles, and is actually VERY fun to play in co-op. I really hope they release another with online co-op, then I'd be in heaven. :)
The trouble with EDF is, you'll either love it, or hate it. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground judging from opinions I've seen. But the worst you can do is lose out on the $10 you could probably find it for (or less), and the best you can hope for is a lengthy, enjoyable co-op experience. :)
If you get the 360 online, grab Crackdown like, yesterday. :P

Thanks for the lists guys. I remembering seeing EDF a while ago and thinking it looked cool. I'll pick it up.
Sad to see so many games offer co-op in online only. It's great they have it... but game companies should remember that, yes, sometimes we DO like to play with people sitting on the couch right next to us.

Good recommendations, but don't you have to download a small emulator file for backwards compatibility? I've only played a small handful of my original Xbox games on the 360, but I thought an internet connection was required?
That said, I second Earth Defense Force 2017 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Actually, I was mostly basing my suggestions on the fact that he mentioned using more than just the 360 to play, in case he didn't already have these older games.

You can order the emulation discs from MS for shipping (i've got a pair of earlier revision ones), but its pretty well hidden on their site.
Though there is something nice about being able to play a game with a buddy on the couch next to you, it tends to be cooler when you're playing with someone and they are in another location, especially when you know them. I don't know how to explain it, but I was pretty floored the first time I was playing stuff on Live (XBox live, not XBox 360 live) and guys who were on my team/against me were in Europe and Japan.
