Only Arcades that I know of in Jacksonville, FL would be Dave & Busters and a new place like D&B that's called Latitude 30. Sucks......

Here in Wisconsin Dells we have a few "family entertainment centers" that have a few machines.

Here are two that I know are open to the public...

http://www.dellsknuckleheads.com/
www.kalahariresorts.com/wi/parks/indoorthemepark/

There are others in the area, but AFAIK, you have to be a guest at whatever resort they're associated with to get in.

The only one I've been to is more or less a collection of machines operating at the Taylor Trade Center (basically an indoor flea market). The good thing is that they have a Star Wars pinball machine so it's all good, lol.

Aside from that, I've heard that Zap Zone in Taylor has an arcade as well, but I haven't been there.

My daughter will be going to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN in the fall, where I and my wife went. Since the early 80's (and likely before) there was an arcade in the Memorial Union. The selection of games had dwindled in recent years, but whenever we visited, I would always play a game or two. On our last trip there in early April, it was boarded up, with construction sounds coming from within. The sign on the wall said "future site of campus vision care services"... a dagger through my heart. But with every dorm room having internet access and many an Xbox360 or PS3, it wasn't too surprising.

I have to add, that since the last time I posted, there is a new arcade here in vegas called Insert Coin(s) that rocks pretty damn hard.

Around here there's:

.

All of Wildwood's boardwalk arcades are all crummy redemption places that look like casinos, filled with slot machines, video poker, and the like.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=106676666621842394102.00046d369eedb19dad297

I was gonna mention Wildwood. I remember growing up all the arcades on the boardwalk there had great GAMES: X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Street Fighter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the like. Over the past 3-5 years, it's slowly become skee-ball, Crane Machines and poker type stuff where you win TICKETS. The Boardwalk Mall on the Boardwalk DID manage to keep some great arcade games for a while. They even gave you 6 credits for 25 cents. About two years ago I went to the mall, and found the old 1990 Simpsons Arcade Game (where Maggie is kidnapped), put in a quarter, and had 6 lives to go through. Best time of my day down there.

Wish there were more arcades around. Looks unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Funspot in laconia actually has a old video poker machine where you win tickets from

also they have slot machines where you can win tickets from (since it is illegal to gamble in that form in the state of NH and not only that its a family entertainment center of course)

My girlfriend has family up near Funspot in NH, and every time we go up there to visit I beg her to go. She usually comes along and I split my time between playing air hockey and skee ball with her and going upsatirs to play the classic games. But it never seems like we're there long enough.

Off topic but there was one year where we didn't go to funspot and instead went to a movie theater that was like a diner and movie theater in one, and it was frikin' awesome. Anyway I said if we didn't go to funspot then I at least get to pick the movie:popcorn:.

I picked the Friday the 13th remake and she was a little angry I picked that one...just because it was Valentine's day.

If you're in that general area, there's actually a place called High Scores in Burlington, NJ (And it's actually not in a bad area). 348 High Street, ALL Classic games. Punch-Out, Tron, 4 Multicabs, 3 Mechanical pins, Star Wars, Mark of the Wolves, and a bunch of other AWESOME stuff in this place. Only open on the weekends though, and the hours are a little funky.

Interestingly, A bar in Denver Colorado just opened recently called The 1Up. The bar features over 30 classic arcade games. Original Ski Ball, several pinball machines and giant Jenga. It is right across the street from Coors Field. I have not checked it out yet but it is on my to do ASAP list!

From what I heard the games are only 25 sents to play and randomly games are put on free play. Also, Either Billy Mitchell or Steve Wiebe will be visiting in August.

I hope a bit of self-promotion is alright; I own Backstage Hobbies & Games (per the user name) in Ludington, Michigan. I've been open four years now and, after alot of attempts, have finally managed to get my hands on some arcade machines. I don't have a lot of space now, but in the next year I'm working on getting a much larger space.
Right now I have five machines active in my store and a retail kiosk X-Box console. Machines online are Mortal Kombat, Primal Rage, Battletoads, Time Soldiers, and I JUST got a hold of a Galaga cabinet. I'm really looking forward to getting my bigger space, I have a few units in storage that need TLC (Arkanoid, Battle Lane Vol 5, Intrepid, Final Fight, Double Dragon, a second Primal Rage, Crystal Castles) that would make for a really neat selection~

If you're interested in arcades on Wildwood's Boardwalk this place just opened, though it's almost all mechanical games. But very impressive, as there's rarely an arcade with even one mechanical pin around these days.

Jilly's Arcade is also good, at least 15 pins and there's some classics like Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man, Daytona USA, 4-Player X-Men, The Simpsons, and a Multicab amongst others.

One of my favorite boardwalk arcades though has to be Flipper McCoy's in Virginia Beach, VA. One of the best arcades I've been to, for sure. Tons of classic games including TMNT Turtles in Time, Sunset Riders, UMK3, X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, House of the Dead 2, Bloxeed, and 6-7 Pinball machines at least, including Creature from the Black Lagoon!

I'm planning a little getaway to Illinois to see what the Galloping Ghost Arcade is all about... $15, free play, no waiting (aside from waiting to play a game).

Best arcade in Illinois!

I can't think of another arcade in the tristate area that has even a quarter of the machines that GG's has.

I see two places in NJ that haven't been mentioned.. For Classic games
there's an "Arcade Museum" called HIgh Scores in Burlington. Pretty much all the classics are there either as dedicated cabs or multicades. Al lgames are only a quarter or fifty cents. It's only open Friday and Saturday but it's heaven. There's eight on the break in Dunellan, NJ which has a nice selection of pins, a few classics, a "Blue Elf" multicade and lots of fighting games and some rarities like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

I remember back in the 90s when I was a kid there was a place called Tilt in Northgate mall. It had three whole walls of arcades crammed next to each other. I wish I could go back in time. That place moved out a long time ago.

The only arcade places I know of anymore are Dave and Buster's, and a place called Gameworks down in Newport, Kentucky. I haven't been there but I'll have to check it out sometime. Then they have the small arcade racers in the movie theaters, but those aren't anything at all.

I wish there were some retro arcades with all classic gaming somewhere around the Cincinnati area.

There used to be a Gameworks in Great Lakers Crossing (2nd largest mall in Michigan), but they shut down. It was a card-based arcade rather than coin-based and had a lot of the classics.

Yesterday was the grand opening of Yestercades, in Red Bank, NJ. I didn't attend, but I may go tonight actually. Essentially, it's a large collection of classic arcade games and consoles all set on unlimited play for 8.75$ an hour or 25$ all day.

Also Barcade in Philadelphia opened up a couple weeks ago, and I went there last Wednesday. They also have locations in Brooklyn and Jersey City. Amazing beer selection and classic arcade games... I found it quite awesome.

I wouldn't day arcades aren't anywhere anymore, they just seem to be popping up and catering to a clearly adult crowd.

If you were at FunSpot, you should've taken the drive down to the Pinball Wizard in Pelham! IMO, it's a far-better run place. 200+ cabs, 70+ pins, oh, and THEY ALL WORK FLAWLESSLY.
My trip to FunSpot last year was completely gimped by the fact that a good 50-75% of the machines I wanted to play had some sort of major malfunction (if they were even in working order), and I'm not in any hurry to go back.

I have been reading this site for a while, and own one of the books even but I honestly joined this forum so I could reply to this thread. I have been searching everywhere for a place where I could just order a beer and play some stand up arcade games. There used to be tons in my youth with classic titles but alas I was too young to drink a beer. Today I am lucky to find a Golden Tee and a claw game with the stuffed animals. I live in the Greater Toronto Area so if anyone knows of anything please PM me. Regardless there are a few places around but not that great and they keep disappearing for some reason. I envy anyone who has a pub they can cruise to and get a pitcher and pump some quarters into a Food Fight or MK1 machine even!

New arcade opened in uptown minneapolis called Rusty Quarters (http://www.rqarcade.com). It has some good games from the 80s, including Rampage, Crystal Castles, Castlevania (which might be subbed out for Tetris this week), Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Street Fighter Alpha 3, BurgerTime, Joust, Space Invaders, Ms. Pac Man.

Then for the pinballers, we have BlaineBrook (blainbrookbowl.com/arcade.html) in Blaine, MN and SS Billiards (http://www.ssbilliards.com) mere minutes from Rusty Quarters.

Fun Factory in the West Valley Mall of Tracy, California. Mostly all ticket vending gaming and a few modern games, such as Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Minor's Camp Arcade at Jackson Rancheria Casino in Jackson, California. Has a Mario Kart Arcade GP machine, an excellent version of Mario Kart. This arcade is actually pretty small, aside from the Mario Kart it's mostly all ticket vending games and air hockey.

There are four arcades I've seen in Newfoundland:

1. Cyber-Zone in Corner Brook. It is a nice place. It has some good games like Punch-Out and Area-51. There are also some pinball machines and a pool table.

The main focus of the place is the Laser Tag. You play in a big maze. Probably like 10 people allowed at once. Great place for birthday parties.

2. There is a theater in Stephenville with a mini arcade. Like 5 or 6 machines I think. Snow Bros is there. The only time I went there was shortly after a movie. I then figured out that they turn off the machines shortly after the movie. I lost a whole quarter :(

3. Family Adventure Park in Corner Brook. I haven't been here in a while, so things may have changed. When I went there there were water slides, a mini golf course and a place to get food. The arcade was on the bottom floor. There were quite a few games, notably Mortal Kombat II, Ms. Pac-Man and Frogger (I think). there were a few pool tables too.

4. The Starcade at the Avalon Mall in St. John's. This arcade has games like Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. However next to all of the new stuff is an old Tetris machine. No pinball but there is air hockey and a lot of games that give out tickets and prizes.

Theres been a interesting trend lately of "Barcade"-type places opening up around the country. It seems like a good idea. Younger folks just don't care about arcades like many of us do so pitching it to the gen x/y crowd may be a good strategy . As mentioned, Barcade in Brooklyn seems to do quite well. I have found that its tough to get a game in when the crowd is big. Reminds me of lining up for the new releases back in the day...except with beer. Seems like some of these places are doing good business. That's good to hear.

I have also found that beach communities also have some arcades. I take the wife and kids down to Rehoboth Deleware each summer and I have found not only a bunch of classic arcade games (I include some 90's era in that mix) but a nice selection of Pinball machines. Down the Jersey Shore a few holdout places can be found as well. Yeah...many are mostly redemption but there are some true classics still out there.

Then again, You can always make your own.

Cheers,

Bob

Our last arcade in the greater Buffalo region disappeared years ago...I haven't seen any others...and Dave & Busters doesn't count. 8 years ago I used to work for Namco Cyberstation in our local mall and shortly after I left the mall had a big redesign and they intended to relocate the arcade and it never happened. There was also a local place, but they also dealt in buy/sell/trade of video games and ripped people off hardcore...so they didn't last long.

I wish I could go back in time to my childhood in the 80's to relive the fun of arcades in their prime!

What arcade are you referring to? I was living in the area from about 94-02 and there were still a few in the malls back then. One of the last I recall was pretty new. It was in a jungle-themed bar/restaurant in the Galleria.

That was kahunaville in the Galleria, but it closed down around 2007ish? When the mall got a make-over. Same with the Namco Cyberstation where I worked. They were supposed to relocate and never did. Also Pheonix Arcade was in the McKinley mall but has also closed down. I don't know of any other arcades left.

Darn.. I have fond memories of Kahunaville. Maybe it was the idea of enjoying a happy hour followed by several games of Tekken Tag. They also had that fake tropical mist that kind of hung in the air. It was cheesy but endearing.

There was an old arcade in that "mall"(if you could call it that) by the Falls a few years back. Summit Park...or something like that. There might have been a museum in there too (not an arcade one btw). Weird.

My prompt reply to your question, SteveW: They do serve food there and it is alright. It is a pretty bar-y bar, though so if you really detest that atmosphere, it might not be for you. I think they open around 4pm daily, so maybe nobody is really in there at that time and you could get some games in.

theres also a very large Dave and Busters located on International Drive in orlando... also theres another arcade located by a small theme park on international drive too.
Also 2 arcades located in Kissimmee Fl on in Funspot USA theme park (not to be confused with Fun Spot in New Hampshire aka the worlds largest arcade).... and also in Old Town Fun Park (they are located side by side with each other).

also there is King Richards in Naples FL which is kinda like a chucky cheese kinda place (just without the chucky cheese regulations)

No arcades around my area anymore.:|

I think that arcades were labeled badly with pool rooms and roller rinks as places for trouble to start among the younger crowd. Real or perceived, I think it limits them from making a comeback in the area I live in.

I do miss the old arcades though.

I think that Tron: Legacy really sparked a comeback of arcades. I know that when I saw Flynn's arcade in the movie, then YT videos of Flynn's at Disneyland, the kid in me was crying with joy. I loved seeing fully functional arcade games, and tons of people enjoying them.

I agree that its more of an adult thing nowadays, because kids today would rather sit at home on the PS3/XBOX 360 than go out to a spot with friends and have fun.

Finances haven't come around to take the trip out to GG yet, but I am going to try and get that done by the end of the summer.

also creating a list for vermont as far as i know....

Burlington Vermont area has Pizza Putt (a local rendition of Chucky Cheese) which has a full on arcade, indoor bumper boats, lazer tag, batting cage, and 9 hole indoor mini golf course.

Also Zackary's Pizza has a decent sized arcade within it to enjoy.

In rutland vermont there is Dream Machine arcade within the Diamond Run Mall.

other then that no arcades anywhere to be found :|
