One complain from a lot of players is that some games would feature a much better game play if diagonal scroll could be implemented into the game engine. Much like action adventures or arcade pinball titles.

I always remember Isolated Warrior on NES to be somewhat fun. It used a 3/4 perspective.

R.C. Pro-Am for the NES featured lots of diagonal scrolling.

The game on arcade does "scroll diagonally" and has digital audio (but it was not a 8-bit original game) ... After more than two years and I still need to try the NES cartridges. The first game was reported to be 'almost' the same that the home computers got. The second is the "arcade" game.Probably someone could skip both and get part III ...

Some space shooters from Konami also does scrolling in the diagonal way, Space Manbow for MSX2/2+ is famous because of the intensive use of scroll ... But this game use a special custom sound chip (SCC) that is also a ROM "mapper"!

Konami also has some Japanese cartridges for Famicom with build in custom sound chips.

Galaxy 5000, one of my favorite NES titles, scrolled in all directions as it followed ships around the track, if I remember correctly.

I think Cobra Triangle scrolled diagonally but I hate Cobra Triangle so I'm not about to go check.

I remember Zen - Intergalactic Ninja on NES having a couple of Diagonal scrolling levels
