Do you need any cables or does it pick without any?

Don't know what you're asking here.
WiFi is wireless, if that helps. (???)

Are you wondering about multiplayer? Because you don't need a cable for that, no matter what anyone tells you.

You need a usb cable to "assign" a PSP (one of up to five) to your PS3 so you can transfer things like game and movie purchases and set up the PSP to function in remote play mode ...
... and you'll also need that cable to buy items off of the PC PSN store and have them transfer to your PSP. (Though you can download wallpapers, themes, mp3s and some game demos directly on the PSP's WiFi web browswer "PSP" page.)
Other than that, all of the PSP's functionality is wireless.

Yes, PSP is WiFi enabled out of the box.

This has made me wonder as I have not tried it myself....
Anyone know if you can use remote play to surf the net with the ps3 browser? Seeing as that browser has many more functions it would be quite a bit better. PSP can barely run most html scripts.

Yes you can, and it does take full advantage of the PS3's larger cache and web functionality.
