View Full Version : Is this Jaguar package a good deal?

I was offered the following Atari Jaguar package for $45:

Atari Jaguar system (loose) with 2 controllers and cords
Alien vs. Predator (complete)
Cybermorph (loose)
Flashback (complete)
NBA Jam (complete)
Raiden (complete)

I'd think the system bundle is worth it for Raiden alone, but I'm just trying to find out if I'm getting a decent deal here. Thanks.

I think it's a good deal. I mean Jaguars go for over $45 alone AFAIK so I'd pick it up for sure.

Alien Vs Predator goes for $10-25 by itself so I'd say it's a pretty good deal. But be a cheap ass like me and offer him $40 anyway, lol.

I'm going to see if I can't get the guy down to $40 since there's no system box. Who the hell asks for $45 anyway? Maybe he's trying to buy something that costs $45.

I think $45 is a pretty good deal...especially with both controllers and the games. I would go for it.

Not a bad deal at all. I think my Jag cost me $50 and that was with only one controller and only two games (not very good ones at that ;) ).

I was able to get the guy down to $40 for the lot. I will pick up on Saturday and I'll try to post pics later on that evening. Thanks, everyone.

I was this close to emailing the guy and saying I had $45 cash in hand. I've never really had any interest in the Jaguar though, and ebay is on my bad side, so I decided not to mess with it.

Thanks, carl. I had forgotten that I had some classic game hunting competition in my neck of the woods, but I know this city (and surrounding counties) is definitely big enough for the two of us. :D

The games I got in the bundle actually kick ass IMO, especially Raiden, NBA Jam and Cybermorph, but after playing it and reading up on the Retroinspection article in Retrogamer magazine months ago, I'm considering tracking down a Jaguar CD attachment now, so you are absolutely right.

I've just opened up Pandora's Box by starting a Jag collection.

I need serious, serious help.

Wait ... you actually like Cybermorph? You're the first person I've ever heard say that, seriously. I think "Combat" was a better pack-in title than "Cybermorph." Can't believe you didn't mention Alien vs. Predator as far as being a kick-ass game, which to me is kinda shocking. Raiden on the Jag is very very good, no doubt. Congrats on snagging a good deal !!!

Yeah a complete AvP is about $30 on ebay, and Raiden is close to 20. You got a steal. It would have gotten double or more on ebay I'd guess...

Yeah, from collecting games over the past few years, I've learned to accept games for what they are, including their limitations, rather than trying to shoehorn them into my own expectations of what I wished they were. It's like expecting a mousey little girl to suddenly grow up and become a beauty queen over a matter of minutes.

Case in point: with Cybermorph, I could complain about the lack of detail in the backgrounds, compare it to the majesty of similar games such as Starfox and state that it's extremely repetitive, but once I got the hang of slowing down and speeding up to grab the power pods or whatever they were, I began to enjoy it. Granted, it's not the kind of game I would spend hours on, but if I were just playing it for the first time in 1993, I might have thought that it was pretty cool.

Alien vs. Predator wasn't bad, but it just didn't grab me. Perhaps it was the lack of music to build the proper tension coupled with the fact that I ran out of ammo just as I was being ambushed by a group of Aliens, but it got frustrating quickly and I just turned it off.

Of course, I found Flashback to be the most annoying of the five, but I never liked that game on the Super Nintendo back in the day, either, so I didn't expect to be too bowled over by that one either.

I'm assuming the seller didn't want to bother with Ebay. His son, who looked to be eight or nine, just handed the whole thing over to me in a shopping bag like it was old junk.

Maybe this guy isn't up on what it was worth. I really wasn't taking advantage of the guy because the system itself was pretty dusty from being neglected over a period of years, and he snatched up the two $20 bills in my hand after I checked everything out and kept moving.

After a good cleaning, it looked brand new, so I guess it's good that it went to a good home and saved that guy some Ebay hassle in the process.

I loved Cybermorph. It helped that I played it in 1993, instead of looking back on it and comparing it to games that came after. At that time, there was nothing really like it. I had a few flight simulators that were in choppy 3D, but not anything free-roaming and fast paced like Cybermorph was. I played through it two or three times. I kinda had to, considering it was so long between the test market launch and when AvP came out. Didn't have much else to play. Still, I loved Cybermorph and especially it's sequel, Battlemorph. I've played that one through many, many times.

I think we've both got some competition. I've seen a number of nice lots on craigslist that have been gone before I even got an email off. I always look here to see if you snagged them, but so far I guess it hasn't been you.

Exactly! When I moved here I realized how much orphaned junk I had, and decided to focus the collection. A year ago I would have been all over that lot, but now I'm pretty content to pass.

If you find a playstation rpg lot you might want to keep it to yourself though!

Yeah, I really don't do Craigslist much. It's usually people trying to unload massive PS2 system and game lots, and I need another PS2 game lot sitting in the middle of my bedroom like I need a gaping hole in my head.

NBA Jam is a 7 on the rarity scale and hard to find. But as a Jag CD owner I have never been more disappointed with a console ever!! I mean $200 for only a 14 library. No thanks and I have played them all due to the no copy proteciton on the Jag CD LOL

Am I missing something? On the DP online rarity guide, NBA Jam: Tournament Edition for the Jaguar is shown as only an R3. Have I lucked into one of the tougher to find games?

For Atari games I go by Atari Age's scale as they have a lot more experience with this genre, at least you would think. Anyhow it took me a long time to find my copy. I paid $50 for mine sealed from B&C as they bought out Atari's warehouse once it closed and have about everything the Jaguar has to offer, even brand new Jaguar CD's as that is where I bought mine.
