You know ... these days, I'm never sure whether these threads should go in the Classic or Modern game sections ... but I suppose the console has a lot more to do with that than the origins of the software franchise.
In any case, I'm glad that Punch-Out appears to be Nintendo's next revival.
One can only imagine that it'll play in a similar fashion to Wii Sports boxing, and hopefully it'll be compatible in some way shape or form with the Wii motion plus.
IMO, Nintendo's track record with this series is pretty much perfect, from the beloved 2-screen arcade games (Punch-Out! and Super Punch-Out!) to the NES game that helped define the system in its earliest days (and still holds up amazingly well to date), to the under-rated SNES title Super Punch-Out! which unfortunately is only fully realized when you make it to the "special circuit" IMO.
I hope the impending release of this means that we'll get SNES Super Punch out on the VC ...
... in the meantime, I still frequently bust out my GameCube version of Fight Night Round 2 to play on my Wii, which has the SNES Super Punch Out! as a bonus game...interestingly, I've never played "Fight Night Round 2" ... only Super Punch-Out.
Thoughts on the trailer? The series?

I didn't know that about Fight Night R2 on the cube... gonna keep a head up for that one. Thanks! :)
Gonna be fun to play the wife in Punch Out. She beats my ass most times in Wii Sports Boxing. LOL

Something tells me this will support the GCN controller.

I'm hoping it plays nothing like Wii Sports Boxing. I have never felt like I had any control over my fighter in that game. Whenever my friends and I play it it always ends with "man, this is is stupid, let's play Bowling".

I knew this would happen eventually. Great news. Always loved this franchise and was rather ticked off when Nintendo abandoned it after the SNES game. I hope this one includes some new characters, because the video only had the classics.

Completely agree.
Please don't screw this up Nintendo. Your Wiimote sucks. Making this control like Wii Sports boxing would be a tragedy. We need a GC control option without question.

Yeah, I'd like a standard control scheme as well ... and while I'm pretty sure Nintendo will have the option in there, you KNOW they're not going to pass up a "motion control" opportunity like this.
And for those who didn't know it ... here's the box art for Fight Night Round 2 on Gamecube, check out that wonderful little logo in the upper right corner.
This game can be found at most GameStops for less than $10. Works great with the Gamecube controller, and Super Punch Out is available for play from the get-go, no need to unlock it or anything.

Wow, I need to hunt down a copy of Fight Night Round 2 for Gamecube.
But, I'll definitely be picking this up and I also agree and hope that this game is nothing like Wii Boxing. I hated Wii Boxing because of the controls but I love Punch-Out so much so no matter how bad the controls are I'll probably get this anyway. I do hope there is either classic or GameCube controller support as well.

There's always the NES control scheme. Waggle stick can do it. :D

I agree as well...I played Wii boxing at a friend's house the other day and very much disliked the mechanics. Having real sparring experience was not at all an advantage, and actually probably a disadvantage. The final nail on the coffin is when my 7-months pregnant wife came up, grabbed the Wiimotes and moved them like maracas and killed everyone in the room...sure I'm a sore loser too...haha

I hope it has unlockables where Mike Tyson quotes are available after certain achievements.

They'd better have a control setup for two remotes with motion plus for accuracy with this. I bet they pack them in with the game. I heard a rumor that this would be the case and that the balance board can be used for left and right dodging. That said, I concur that they need to have a traditional control setup as well. Judging from the footage, the game will look 100% right, though it also looks extremely early. I like that Little Mac appears to be making a return.
I've been waiting two generation for Nintendo to make a new Punch-Out!! game. This game will most likely push me into finally buying a Wii.

This is wonderful news.
I was expecting a punch-out game for the gamecube. I remember they launched some commercials for the bmw mini during the cube's cycle. The commercials talked about the little guy fighting the big guys, I thought for sure they were talking about Little Mac. God I was excited until I found out it was just a stupid car commercial :(
I can't wait for this - I'll reserve this ASAP.

If it has motion + control, that would be good. :D
Especially if it supports two controllers, both with motion+.

Finally, an original Wii game that looks interesting! When I saw the main character's green hair in the trailer, I kind of peed myself a little bit out of excitement.

All I'm hoping for is that bad Wii controls won't fudge the whole package. Besides that, I AM STOKED!!! I especially love King Hippo in cel-shading. :-D

Yeah cause throwing an uppercut was retarded in Wii Sports. I remember when my father was playing the Boxing portion of Wii Sports, he was throwing real punches (cause he takes Karate) and he was like "Wtf...!?". Had to tell him not to punch for real. LOL But anyways, I'm glad that Nintendo is making games for the "hardcore" gamers. When I first heard about this, I was like "Oh snap!".
Is anyone else extremely excited about this? I think I'd rather play this than anything else announced in 2009, except maybe RE5.
