It's awesome, hands down.
SO much fun co-op, it's like co-op/challenge where you compete for high score and try to get all items and share at the same time, you can get the other guy killed and there are shared lives for levels so it's not just a fluff game it's a fun crazy romp, many laughs so far have been had.
Already played some peoples created levels and there are over 100 items to collect just on the first 3 levels alone.
This is a first day buy, no doubt. Loving it.

I've been hearing about this game so much that I am burned out on it before even playing it.

The physics ruin it. Way too floaty. Some neat stuff going on in the game, but the physics are intolerable.

This game is so hyped up it had better turn water into wine.

I played it this year in between bands at Lollapalooza. I preordered it the following Monday.
It's the last new game I'll be buying this year, I think.
I've been waiting for a great game that my 7 yr old and I can play together. This one looks like it's going to be loads of fun.

I spent the better part of the weekend playing the retail version of the game, and it's easily a hype-generating, "10-worthy" game, not necessarily on its technical merits (the character controls are minimalist and generally solid, but can feel a bit frustrating at times due to the nature of the 3-layered hybrid 2D/3D design and the software's desire to "auto" move your sack-character to the appropriate "layer". This can make for some mildly frustrating running/jumping sections, that don't feel "broken", but may require a few tries to get the game to do what you want it to. You may also find yourself "stuck" in an environment and forced to use a "suicide" mode which the programmers were smart enough to include.), but rather on it's willingness to put user created creativity at the forefront of the game.
And, as it was mentioned above, the physics are very, very floaty ... so if that's not your thing (doesn't bother me one bit, and I feel it aides the 4-player mechanic rather well) there's no gravity adjustment to be found.
All of those minor quibbles aside, this game is surely going to continue its hype out of the gate, and even a short amount of time with the software can lead an experienced gamer to believe that it will clearly have a user-base and "online community" that continues to play it and create new levels until LBP part 2.
