Edit: Bojay1997 mentioned below that this is a clear sheet of plastic, with a pink ribbon on it, added to the packaging. You should probably file this in the same category as a sticker on the case.

For those keeping track of such things, this week's Target circular features a Pink Ribbon (breast cancer support) variant Madden 09 for Xbox 360 (PS3 not mentioned) and Madden 09 All-Play for Wii. Sales will in some way benefit the Deanna Favre Foundation.

This is in addition to the Pink DS Lite featured in several other stores' ads. I only saw the Madden offered at Target.

each store only gout about 2-3 of the ds systems, probably will be quite a rarity down the road.

Just an FYI, that Pink Ribbon is just a clear sheet of printed plastic that they put on top of the normal Madden 09 cover. That's why it still has Brett Favre in the old jersey. Once the month is over, Target has the option of removing the insert if they'd like. Not sure I'd call it a variant as such, more like a store specific sticker of sorts.

Didn't know that, I assumed it was printed on the insert (as I could see it wasn't just a sticker). Thanks for the info.

On a related note, I am so dang sick of the pink ribbons everywhere. Women act like breast cancer is the only kind of cancer out there. More men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer, but you never hear about that statistic, you just see pink ribbons all over the place. My brother is possibly facing prostate cancer, and it's a damn shame that so little is known about the disease in society. Madden should have done some kind of prostate cancer promotion, considering 99.9% of all the people playing Madden games are men.

Maybe because everyone likes breasts?

Well, the prostate cancer awareness ribbon is blue. Perhaps wearing blue ribbons, and getting your friends to, and spread the word a bit would help to start getting the word out.

Dang, and I was going to make a joke about how no one liked the brown ribbons...

But instead I'll point you to the "Pints for Prostates" campaign.

...and maybe mention how I wanted to make up magnetic ribbons for cars that said "No more f*****g ribbons". Ah, I can be so cynical.

Also, all the promotion/awareness in the world isn't going to help unless guys get over their hang-ups about getting the test.

But anyway, to be a bit more on-topic, what an odd pairing for a promotion campaign. I'm sure your average Madden player couldn't give two shits about breast cancer awareness, and would want to grab a copy of the game with a pink cover. Not really sure who they're trying to sell this to.

I thought the same thing, but in visiting a lot of Targets this week to take advantage of the various clearance games, I noticed that copies of Madden with the ribbon seem to be selling. I suspect it's a good way for a kid to convince their mom to purchase it when they are cruising down the aisles.

It's because Madden is a game that sells in droves regardless of anything. Might as well chip a couple bucks of that profit into helping others.
