I just got a new 360 and had to choose one between the two of them. I went with Infinate Undiscovery instead of Tales and I'm starting to think I may have went with the wrong choice now that I read more about the games and have put in a few hours on IU. For everybody who has played both, which one do you prefer. I haven't played Tales yet.

If I was to buy one, I would probably pick Tales because I liked the voice acting in the demo and the battles were a lot of fun. With Infinite Undiscovery it seems like Microsoft was trying to quickly get another RPG out on their system. I say that because I've read that Microsoft funded at least a small amount for that game. Square-Enix eventually did take over publishing the game. I'm sure both are about as fun as the other but I would buy Tales first.

Tales to me has the most positive reviews from rpgers. One of the things that annoyed folks was that you could get attacked when accessing the menu. Infinate to me has better box art and has probably sealed the deal with alot of people because of it.

Infinite Undiscovery was entirely funded by Microsoft. Square Enix was just brought on board later on for the name recognition. Yeah, Microsoft was definitely trying to get more Japanese RPGs on the 360, but I wouldn't hold that against the game. tri-Ace had ideas for the game for many years, and between the 360's hardware and Microsoft's funding, they were finally able to realize them. And apparently tri-Ace must've liked working with the system since Star Ocean 4 is going to 360 rather than the seemingly more obvious PS3 choice.
As for which to get, I can't help there. I saw Vesperia at PAX, and it looks nice but not really any different from the rest of the series. The Tales series is pretty safe and reliable, but it's kind of derivative at this point. Infinite Undiscovery seems more innovative, but I still don't have my copy because GameStop.com royally screwed up my order.

Infinite Undiscovery sounds like a good name for a progressive rock band.
Therefore, it gets my vote.

I haven't played Infinite Undiscovery yet (I'll be picking it up eventually), but I'm currently playing Tales of Vesperia, and love it.
Vesperia is one of those RPG's that you can't wait to keep coming back to. I've played untold amounts of RPG's over the years and the ones that get a hold on me like that are rare. Great music, fun battle system (not really any different than recent Tales games), professional voice acting with an interesting story so far. Also...I love the simple fact of NO RANDOM ENCOUNTERS. I'm also playing Dragon Quest IV (DS) and let me tell you...it's hard to go back to random battles popping up every 5 seconds. What can I say...I use to love "traditional" RPG battles but Final Fantasy XII spoiled me.

Well, the composer, Motoi Sakuraba, used to be in a progressive rock band (and still composes a large percentage of his music in prog style), so it's fitting. :)

I hated IU but love Vesperia. Although I do love all the Tales games...I do however feel that Vesperia is the best of the bunch and was a pleasure to play all the way through.

Vesperia by far. I like Tri-Ace and all but Infinite Undiscovery was a dud imo. Vesperia is the best RPG since Dragon Quest 8.
Bought both games day one and finished them. I enjoyed them both immensely, but IU is better overall IMO despite its shortcomings.
