I found this today in the wild for $70, complete minus the outer packing "crate" and after many years of wondering what the hype was, played it for a bit tonight and really like it - as do my kids. They think the controller is just the greatest thing ever made. So, were there any other games planned for this contraption, and if so were they produced?

Thanks!

That's funny. I myself just today bought a loose copy with the controller for for $80. Probably won't get a chance to try it until tomorrow night but hopefully it lives up to the hype. I don't expect to be disappointed.

There is one sequel to the game called Steel Battalion 2: Line of Contact, but AFAIK it only works in online mode and there is no more official online mode. I don't think there are any other games with direct support for this.

And now you know everything I know about the game

I thought the online campaign was gone, but you could still do online exhibition.

LoC was an online only component. The online servers are down, thus making LoC a dead disc. However if you've got more people, with more controllers, headsets, copies of the game ect you can still LAN it.

Steel Battalion: Line of Contact was for all intents and purposes an online-only expansion to the original Steel Battalion. Although the game also supports a System Link mode, the logistics of outfitting for LAN based play are quite daunting. Each player must have an Xbox, Steel Battalion controller, game disc, standard Xbox controller, headset communicator, display and sound system

I'm kicking myself for not buying a preowned version of Steel Battalion with the crate for $50 at my local Gamestop about six months ago.

One question. Does the SB controller (for lack of a better word) work on a 360? I've never seen the controller, so I'm not aware if it connects through the Xbox controller ports or via USB cable.

I would have thought something like this could have taken off in Japan in a major way and helped Xbox sales if market correctly.

Maybe not as Steel Battalion, but repackaged as a Gundam/Macross/VOTOMS/popular-mecha-anime-of-the-moment game. It's a damn Mobile Suit simulator, and to the Japanese I would have thought that would be a major selling point? If you want to keep it as Steel Battalion, then get a short Manga series published in Shonen Jump or a similar publication.

I know that most Japanese people don't have the greatest amount of living space, but I've seen people with Astro City cabs crammed in the most random of places so they can play ESPgaluda. I'm sure there's many Otaku out there that would have a controller half the size of the room it's in if they could be running around in a Scope Dog....

It's a standard Xbox controller connection. Never having used a 360 I don't know if the ports are exactly the same or not. Even if it's not...for the money involved you might as well throw another $60 or whatever for a used model I Xbox on top of all of it. In for a meseta, in for a mech, so to speak.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to punt on my getting my Steel Battalion cherry poked tonight as I'm babysitting two additional kids as well as my own. I have no problem letting the Pantechniclings in on Daddy's fun, but these other two are the kind who spend more energy breaking toys than playing with them. So I think I'll just keep my super terrific happy giant robot control panel under wraps until a more suitable time (but dammit I really want to play this!).

If you want to get more use out of your controller. Never tried it for lack of time, but seems cool enough...

You cannot play SB on the 360, due to no controller adapter. Thankfully this is the case as I bought my SB on Craigslist from a guy for $25 because he upgraded to a 360!

Why would you need a regular XBOX controller? To navigate the menus?

If anyone has the controller manual, please let me know as that is the only piece I am missing.
