Hi all;

Recently purchased a Street Fighter II: Champion Edition PCB and I had a few questions about it, for anyone who has some tech knowledge on this particular series of boards.

First off, the sound is a bit crap. All sounds that are samples (voices, hit FX, etc) are garbled, full of static, or mixed up. This also affects all music tracks that use samples in them (drums, cymbals, etc). Non-sampled audio is fine. Removed and reseated EPROM's 18 & 19, no change. Does this sound like an issue that may be fixed by replacing both 18 and 19 with new chips?

As for the official Turbo upgrade, and all the unofficial upgrades that were made, what chips in what locations need to be added/changed?

For the board itself (and I'm assuming CPS1 boards in general), what do the extra pinouts besides the kick harness do?

Specifically: CN5 (3 pins), CN104 (4 pins), CN103 (6 pins), and CN101 (10 pins)?

Any help provided is much appreciated.

-regards

Does the board have CAPCOM written all over it? (is it a bootleg? SF2 was pirated all to hell)

Turns out it was a jumper (on section VJ01) that had came loose from one end of the connection. This jumper works in tandem with the 2 voice ROMs and because it wasn't making contact it was causing the samples to be garbled.

That'll do it. ;)

There are jumpers in different places on those CPS1 B boards that remap the A16 and CE* lines for the EPROMs. This allowed Capcom to use 27C301 or 27C010 type EPROMs on a single board. This way they could get whatever was cheap and available at the time. ;)
