I'm going to get my hands on a cool cocktail someday, but I'm a total newb about arcade machines (if you read this part of the forum regularly, I have had a couple posts like this one in the past couple years). Defender wouldn't be my first choice, but I've seen one locally on CL for $400. here is the ad (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/clt/869234219.html). Now given that I'm luke-warm about Defender, is this a good enough deal that if I decide to sell it in a year I won't lose money?

*NEVER* rely on current game values as a medium of currency. With the economy the way it is a lot of people don't have disposable income. Especially on a game you're only so-so about. Wait for a game you think is a keeper.

I'd say for $250-300 that would be a nice buy. while the picture is pretty small it does look to be in rather nice condition. But then again think about it, how much are you going to play a game that your only so-so about. I'd say wait until you see a game that your going to love and play the hell out of. Otherwise its cheaper to just go to dave and busters and pump a few quarters into their mame cabinet, (MUCH CHEAPER).

Yeah, I guess I was asking if it was so good a deal that I couldn't go wrong with it. I've read a little more about the Defender cocktail, and it sounds like the 13" screen and cocktail format don't work well for this game. So, it is back to watching and waiting.

Because of its difficulty level and lack of appeal to casual gamers, IMO Defender is not a good game to dabble in. I *love* my Defender cab but everyone who comes over wants to play Ms Pac Man or Asteroids.

defender is a fun game and id personally take it any day over mrs pacman. whether or not I'd take it over galaga or asteroids is a bit shadier. Here is my advice find and purchase a tempest cabinet, not only do they look cool but its one of the best classic arcade games out there ;).

Now I know you are just messin' with me. Isn't Tempest about the worst possible "starter" cabinet you can get? I thought I'd read that it is very failure prone, and isn't the monitor unusual in some way and uncommon? Great game, though.

It's not a Defender cab, it's Stargate.
