Hey Joe, I've got an idea for a Collector's Corner article. How about doing something on the promotional materials that are sent to stores like Gamestop, EB, etc. The guys at the local Gamestop like me for whatever reason so I've gotten lots of promotional stuff. Mostly for Nintendo systems. Here's what I've got.

Eternal Darkness oversized promotional box.
Eternal Darkness promo DVD case insert (same as the real, except it says "For Display Only)
Super Mario Sunshine oversized promotional box.
Super Mario Sunshine promo DVD case insert.
Wind Waker full sized display.
Wind Waker oversized promotional box.
Two different versions of Zelda Wind Waker promo DVD inserts
Zelda: Link to the Past oversized box.
Zelda: Link to the Past promotional carosel (is that what it's called?)
Animal Crossing oversized box
Animal Crossing pop-up house
Metroid Prime promotional box
Metroid Prime promo dvd insert
Metroid Prime fullsized display
Contra 3 oversized box
Super Puzzle Fighter GBA oversized box
Contra: Shattered Soldier oversized box

BTW, I'm always on the lookout for shit like this, even if I have it. Plus I'm looking for COMPLETE Gamecube Kiosk discs. I will pay cash or trade out of my collection for them. I have a hunch they'll be worth a lot one day. I have every disc 1 through 9 sealed, plus I have a couple others, and I just got #10 for free from Target.

So if you have them, let me know. I have cash. I have good stuff. And since I've decided to collect Nintendo stuff exclusively, everything in my collection not related to Nintendo (or my DC collection) is up for grabs. Let's hear it. PM me at reneke@msn.com or PM me.

Any promotional stuff must be in good condition and must be shipped in a way that keeps the stuff from getting damaged. Thanks :)

Assume that if it's video game related, I've been collecting it. Really someday I have to try to work out a picture of the video game T-shirt collection I've got. I need more time and space!

I like the idea of a list, though it would take a considerable effort to compile an accurate one. I've been gathering promo materials since the 1991 Summer CES (that was my first one) and have pens, stickers, buttons, pads, and keychains in the hundreds and that doesn't even get into the EB/GameStop era where employee buddies are always on the lookout for me (the two seasons I did at EB in 94/95 didn't hurt either). I can tell you that we're talking hundreds upon hundreds of items - so I don't know if you'd want to refine the list and exclude certain things or just accept the fact that it wouldn't be complete?

I'd like to hear more opinions!

Hey Joe, I've got an idea for a Collector's Corner article.

Ah, I jumped right to your list and missed this - for the Tips & Tricks column, you meant.

There's actually a section for that already, it's usually in the back. "Cool Zone". Tips & Tricks has been featuring promo stuff in this section for years. Check out some of the sweet goodies they've accumulated!

I've been doing his for about a year and a half. I have loads of stuff. I filled a 25 gallon tupperware container in one year, so I have way to much to list. NOt to mention the 20 promo shirts I have hanging in the closet.

Among my more notable Items, I have a Midway promo store employees box (not to great, but came with a defender lapel pin and t shirt, only way to get one), the gamestop Maximo Figure, my Harvest Moon Cow, My GTA 3 Beanie, A Pac-Man baseball hat, Mario Towel (most of you saw that on the ebay insanity contest), a really nice Blinx Watch that only managers are supose to have (my old boss loves me) and to much stuff to think of right now.

Once I get my Game Room actually put together, I'm going to put up shelves and diplay it all. I'll post pictures once I do that.

I just started collecting press kits, especially the "deluxe" versions that come in boxes loaded with cool stuff. I'm still trying to get my hands on the Primal version that comes with the t-shirt and demo disc.

I collect Promotional Video game stuff..Whatever I can get my hands on..
I have several items.displays I could add to a list..

I just picked up a bunch of XBox Promotional items,Store displays etc.
I was very much into collecting Promo items...but It's getting harder to get anything..

I had a friend who worked at EB...he was giving me all the Promo items, store displays I wanted...then he quit the job.. :(

After he quiit...I started asking for this stuff at various Video Game stores,I would buy stuff from..sometimes it would pay off..asking..
But the last time I went to an EB..a guy was throwing out a bunch of promo stuff and store dIsplays.I asked if I could have the stuff since it's going in the garbage..He said sure...So I started to walk away with the stuff and he changed his mind..I was pissed...I looked like a real fool..
He said.."oh ,you'll have to wait until my manager comes in"...
He said call here at 5-6 pm..Ok..So I went all the way home and called later..

When I called the manager said.."sure you can have all this stuff come pick it up".....I was happy..
I drove all the way back to that store..and when I got there and asked for the stuff he said..."Oh, I can't give you that stuff"...(stupid Idiot)..
I asked ..him .."well why did you tell me yes over the phone"..?
He looked at me with no answer..
I was really mad now...this jerk made me drive all the way back for nothing..

That basically stopped me from ever asking for stuff anymore..I was disgusted..
Now..
The Vendor at the local flea market who sold me the Xbox promo items, said she's gonna bring me stuff every week..because he son works in a Video Game store and gets piles of this stuff.
I might have my foot in the door, but I don't know if I really want to get all the stuff she's talking about..
Should I?
Is this stuff legal to sell..If I decided to sell some of the duplicated items..or stuff I don't want?

I don't see why not. You bought it from someone, no reason why shouldn't be allowed to resell it. If you were a GameStop employee selling the stuff that might be another story - a lot of these items are meant to be given to customers and/or for pre-ordering. I know for a fact that they don't look too highly at employees selling this merchandise but fuck it. You ARE the customer!

I have quite a few. My favorite ones cost me quite a bit . The GTA 3 baseball bat, Skies of Arcadia wooden sword, State of Emergency riot batton, New Legends sword (yes a real sword), Boxed Devil May Cry Wine Decantur with glasses made to look like a giant book(absolutely beautiful), NFL Blitz full sized helmet, Autographed Tony Hawk skateboard, Rune Battle axe (full size - not sharp) Onimusha chi wooden boxed set and the Spryo the Dragon crystal ball. Also be on the lookout for a Resident Evil Head in a Jar (almost full sized) this is one I don't have.

Some of the stranger ones. NFL Blitz hot sauce, War of the Monsters viewmaster, PaRappa the Rapper Dogbone gold necklace, Sega Bass fish in a newspaper, Chu Chu Rocket Mouse Trap, NCAA College football cleat and an OUTDOOR GRILL !!

I have 2 of the new Wind Walker promotional scrolls which is a rendition of the begining of the game. Its not the wall scroll. Its like a parchment scroll. If you can grab one outside of eBay I would recomend it. Here is a picture of what I mean. A few have sold on ebay for outragous prices each time. Way way overpriced.

I love promos. The bigger the better. I started with a closet and it filled up a LONG time ago. Now its the better part of a bedroom. I do need to take some pics but I don't have anywhere to host them.

@DP Ohh speaking of pics I have a disk somewhere with all your T-shirts on them Joe. I just have to find it.

Jamie I think you have caused enough trouble with that Luigi's Mansion Flashlight.

I've got a closet full of promo items: shirts, pens, pins, keychains, plush, posters, paper pads, sports balls, etc. and an attic full of large posters, standees, and oversized boxes. Most came from my years at Toys R Us, some came from Blockbuster, and a few were purchased. The oldest thing I have is a Ms. Pac-Man mobile for the 2600 (missing one of the ghosts) that my mom got for me from Safeway back when they sold games.
