I sent some consoles into Old School Gamer a while back for repairs and mods and they did an awesome job, although I really got hit with massive shipping costs. Close to a $110 for shipping and duties round trip. I want to send some more consoles to them, although the shipping is giving me second thoughts. I was wondering if there was an OSG branch in the US or some way to ship items to them for cheaper. Last time I used UPS.

Furthermore is there a company like OSG in the US that offers the same level of quality service or is this just wishful thinking?

Never, NEVER, NEVER ship across the border using UPS.

They are horrible. That $110 in shipping and duties probably included $40-$60 in brokerage fees, which simply means they took it across the border for you. They're terrible that way. It's a total scam.

If you just ship with USPS, you'll be much better off. Whenever I buy something from the states, if the seller uses UPS, I'll either tell him to forget it or I'll pick it up at a PO Box in Maine.

UPS = the Devil

Out of curiosity, how much did you send to them? I sent about a 10lb package to them and it cost around $20 and I lived in Illinois at the time, either your package weighed a ton or you just got scammed by UPS.

Is it me or does it seem like someone doesn't like UPS? :)
I just checked the USPS website and it indicated that a ten pound package would cost $28.00 to ship to Canada. Not cheap, but definetly better than UPS.

I've been looking at a thread over at GameTZ, some guy shipped a DS via UPS and the receiver got hit with a $40 fee. UPS is fucking AWFUL. :\

That's exactly what happened to me awhile back, but it was for a GBA.

Back to the topic at hand...

It would be helpful to know what you are wanting modded and what type of mods...

For example: Colecovision, Composite Video & Audio outputs.

I was looking to get an Atari 5200 repaired and AV and power upgrade plus getting a Colecovision repaired and the AV and splash screen upgrade

I've done CV composite video/audio mods and can do the BIOS upgrade. Haven't done any S-Video mods. I had 30 custom circuit boards made for doing the composite video mod. They are 1" square and contain a small op amp circuit.

What repairs do you need on both consoles? I've done repairs on both. The Atari controllers are a bitch to do so I stay away from them. You can buy the innards for them off of eBay. I suggest getting the buttons and mylar stuff all at one time and just replace it all.

For the 5200, it shouldn't be hard to make an amp circuit on perfboard to do the A/V mod. The 5200 FAQ has the info on it in section 4.13.

I'll have to lay hands on a 5200 to do some experimenting with. If it works well, I'll lay out a small circuit board and order a batch of them as well.
