EGM is saying that in the success of the Bionic Commando remake Capcom is looking to revisit more of their back catalog; Strider being one of the first to receive such treatment.
EGM suggests it will be a Devil May Cry style game.

I dont know about you but I'd be more privy to a side scroller sequel. Most games that borrow the DMC formula come out so-so, and I think it would be hard to make it FEEL like a real Strider game.

What would you guys want to see in a new Strider game?

The stages and bosses should be bigger and the main character should be smaller.

Good to hear btw, i'm not to thrilled about Megaman 9 mainly cause you have to pay for add-ons that seem like they should have been included, Bionic Commando was a much better package altogether.

If it were in lines of the Arcade/PSX version of Strider 2, then I'd be all for it. Just the thought gives me tingles.

It needs to be 2D (or 2.5D), otherwise it's pointless.

Tetris.

I think it should play exactly like Tetris.

...

...

and instead of Strider, they should call it ... Tetris.

:?

Or, they could do a 2D version with hand-drawn pixels that look similar to the Marvel Vs. Capcom Strider ... that would be pretty sweet.

As long as it's incredibly awesome, I don't care if it's 2D or 3D... although the Strider fan in me really wants a new 2D installment. If that happens, though, the transitions between stage segments need to be a lot smoother than they were in Strider 2.

LOL! Actually, a decent Strider-esque game available for DS is the recently released The Legend of Kage 2. It's fast, combo based and most enemies are one hit kills. You guys should give it a try!

An old school SNES favorite of mine that also had shades of Strider was Run Saber. The production values weren't as high, but the well-paced action and 2-player co-op more than made up for it.

That said, I LOVE Strider. I plan to go for the Twin Galaxies fame on MAME one day for Strider 1...I can still beat the game on on credit, but I am DEFINITELY rusty. I used to be able to rock it on one man!:rocker:

I will whip myself back into shape one of these days.:pimp:

Couple of things--first off, there was a side-scroller sequel in 1999 or 2000. Look up Strider 2. It didn't really "FEEL" like a real Strider game. In fact, it kind of sucked. I keep the game around for the Strider 1 disc.

Secondly, and totally coincidentally, I've been describing DMC4 as "Modern Strider" to my friends since it came out. Even the "now loading" font looks like the Strider title screen (and Ghouls 'N' Ghosts, for that matter). The fast action and furious button-pressing totally reminds me of Strider. If what EGM suggests is true, I think it would work out okay.

The problem with Strider 2 (at least on Playstation) is that it takes place in a series of very small areas, and at the end of each area, the game stops very abruptly and throws up a seizure-inducing Strider 2 logo screen to load the next area. The core gameplay is great, but the overall experience feels kind of choppy. I don't get why Capcom didn't see fit to port it to Dreamcast like every single one of their other arcade games of the time.

Yeah, I agree that the gameplay feels disjointed by the constant loading; some of the areas you progress through don't even seem related (how did I go from climbing on a satellite dish to crawling through a heat vent?) vs. Strider Arcade's ginormous levels with smooth transitions from area to area.

In addition, as you suggested, I think the PS1 was just too weak to handle everything going on at a given time. The backgrounds are pretty detailed and neat to look at running in full 3-D (remember the level where you're on top of some kind of German castle looking at cannons firing at you from the distance? Cool stuff!) but as a result, I think the CPU gets too clogged and the action doesn't feel very smooth like the original does.

A graphically updated NES version with some slight adjustments to the play control.

Yes, I said that.

I have to disagree with that. It feels like a Strider game to me - almost like a rehash of the original for the most part. The disjointed breaks are what kill the game, though. Other than that, I think it has the Strider feel in spades.

I'm well aware of the PS1 sequel, I thought it was fun but it didn't grab me. It didnt seem to have the same acrobatics the first one had. There was a lot of run to the right/slice/repeat. Thats a game I told myself I would actually finish one day.

Interesting about DMC4 though. Nobody pointed out the Strideresqueness of it to me before. I'll have to try that. Maybe DMC4 was just a practice run for what they had in mind for Strider.

Yeah, DMC, to me, seems like the spiritual evolution of Capcom's 16-bit arcade days. I just seems to have a lot of art reminiscent of that style. I can't really give you a concrete example, but it's a sense that I get while I play it. Try and see how you feel. It's a great game, even without Strider as a reference point.

Whoa, I never heard about this. I must get it!

However, didn't LoK 2 come out already for the NES as Demon Sword?
