I'm a big fan of live music recording as well as someone who, at one time, did a whole lot of live recording for student film work and video production. Of all the digital recording formats out there MD is easily the best. DAT tape recorders are bulky and the sound quality isn't up to Minidisc. MP3 recorders rarely have MIC power unless you spend $400 and beyond that the equipment is usually junk that breaks faster then a Chinese iPod knockoff. They also have issues with overly compressed audio.

I've been having a blast recording with two portable Sharp MD recorders with Sound professional stereo microphones as a way to add 5.1 to video.

Portable MD recorders are built with standards I've never seen with portable MP3 players. That MADE IN JAPAN still means something it seems. Sharp portables are made of metal, have amazing recording features, and have sound quality you just won't find on today's market.

Well, maybe you already knew this and that is why you are reading.

Circuit City (in store) is selling Sony MD 80min 10 packs (10MDW80CL) for $3.50. These sell for $20 online.

I picked up sixty 80 minute Minidiscs yesterday for $24'ish after tax.

They still make new MD's? Interesting.

I already have a 5-pack I use for recording, but it doesn't hurt to stock up.

This is probably a serious YMMV, but I'm going to check it out.

I'm the only fool who still listens to a MiniDisc player in the morning while I'm ironing. As a matter of fact, I just bought that player brand new on clearance at Sears earlier this year.

Thanks, Raedon.

I loved my sony minidisc player, I'd love to get a new model just for the hell of it. Is there a place to buy new MD players?

In the US only Sony has a model. You got to Ebay for recorders these days.

As for the deal - forgot to mention they didn't change the price tag on the display. Still said $9.98 or something.
