Just picked up a couple SNES games, but the boxes have some slight mold problems. I can probably wipe off most of the mold, but I want to kill it for good. I was thinking of putting the boxes in a sealed container with a little bleach, so the bleach fumes could kill the remaining mold without damaging the box. Think that would work?
Any other suggestions?
I didn't even think boxes could HAVE mold :o
if it was plastic maybe some detergent but cardboard is gonna have all the colors come right off :|

I asked my wife (she's good with stuff like this), she offers the following advice:
1) she doesn't believe that the bleach fumes will work, it isn't really the fumes that will kill anything, mold takes actual contact with the bleach and possible some scrubbing.
2) your best best is to keep it dry. Wipe off the mold that's already there, and keep it in a dry area. If you keep it dry, the mold will die. A blowdryer may help here.
She also notes that the mold may already be dead - without seeing it, it's impossible to tell.

In addition to the drying suggestion, expose the boxes to direct sunlight for a few hours. Naturally, I'm not suggesting you hang them in a shop window day and night, so the danger of fading the print is low.

They're already dry, but I'm keeping them separate from the rest of my collection for a while, just to be safe. I threw away the inner cardboard cart holder as they were probably beyond saving. I was able to wipe the boxes down inside and out with a rag with a little bit of rubbing alcohol, they look better, but only time will tell if the mold is dead.
