Just came in the mail today from Hong Kong. I paid about $60 for it shipped, not a bad deal. Anyway, I don't know how many of you have seen this, so I thought I'd take some pics of the packaging and stuff.

And here are some gameplay shots. My tripod made these possible. This thing is hard to photograph in action!

I got one of those last month at a GameStop for $30 used and in very good condition (though not as pristine as yours)

I really like the classic Famicom controller design better than just about any GB Micro color scheme/faceplate design I've seen.

Technically Impressed with everything except for the volume controls. No need for them to have been digital ... and they always seem to reset to the halfway point between sessions.

Otherwise, a nice albeit strange last addition to the GameBoy hardware family (since Nintendo has always denied that the DS hardware family isn't part of the same lineage).

I think the reason they made the volume control digital is the way you have to grab the thing might result in a lot of accidental sliding of the volume switch. I think they made the on/off switch exta hard to turn on and off for the same reason.

...or do the other Micros have volume sliders?

Very nice. Is the Micro considered THE gba? I've heard a lot about the SP2, but I'm digging this design.

What is the "I" in the upper left corner?

I think the Micro and the SP2 are very similar in terms of screen quality--the only difference is the size and what kind of ergonomics you like better. I wanted something I could fit in my pocket along with my ipod, cell phone, wallet, and camera. Yeah, I carry a lot of gadgets with me :)

What is the "I" in the upper left corner?

It's a nod to the original Famicom controller--it's player I.

One more thing worth mentioning is that the Micro will not play GB or GBC games--it's GBA only.

Was this released in the US at all? I'd love to get one!

The 20th Anniversary edition GBM has always been my favorite design from the Micro line. It's a shame I never got around to picking one up.

RIP Gameboy.

I don't think so, but you can get them on eBay. That's what I did.

Yeah, but I don't think the packaging was anywhere near as cool as that. Just the same old box.

I bouthgt mine almost as soon as it was released over there. I got it at Play-Asia for about $140. I don't regret it. I love that thing.
I really really really wanted to get the "Player II" faceplate (http://cgi.ebay.com/GAME-BOY-MICRO-FACE-PLATE-FAMICOM-CLUB-NINTENDO-LIMITED_W0QQitemZ150303298836QQihZ005QQcategoryZ13 9969QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), but I'll probably never own it. I wish I could have used those useless Club Nintendo points that came with the damn Micro....:(

$100 for a faceplate!? Yeesh...It'd be nice if the microphone actually worked on that.

Very nice console and pictures, boat. Lovin' the packaging included within the box.

common as dirt. i picked one up in tokyo about a year and a half ago for 40$ MIB. we had a north american release too, this isnt very valuable (for an unboxing thread, at least). btw i think your emissing the pouch that came with it.

the truly rare gem is the GBA SP that sport those colors, get one of those then we'll talk ;)

No. Unless you like dinky screens and have the hands of a 3 yr. old. LOL

btw, this thing was released in response to the huge attention the SP version received (it sported the same scheme, materials etc, but was on a clamshell sp -- was a 'response' to the NES version we got here). however that version was extremely limited and sold out almost instantly, i cannot remember the numbers, but i believe it was under 1000 produced (correct me please). there were 5 that were autographed by Miyamoto and put up for sale, 3 in japan and 2 here (also not 100% on the breakup), in the nintendo world center in nyc. i had a chance to pick it up for around 400, i greatly regret not doing so.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, NytroSkull7. I don't know why NoA changed the packaging for the NA release.

My local Futureshop actually had one of these in-store still for sale ($69.99) up until about a month ago when they redesigned their game section. It disappeared, probably returned to some corporate warehouse to be returned or something. I thought about buying it, but the Famicom has zero sentimental value and it's rather ugly. I just bought a black one instead.

I see the one here in pics confirms that it isn't just my Micro that has terrible contrast ratio. I expected an immaculate LCD image considering the pixel density and small lighting requirements. The only thing this has over the DSLite screen is that the image is rock solid. There is no blurring or shimmer at all when scrolling around. Otherwise the DSLite screen has blacks that are actually black and is almost twice the screen area.

That said, the micro is infinitely more comfortable to play GBA games with. If only this had a slightly larger screen, maybe 2.5", because 2" is so small that I can't hold the system in my lap and still see the screen comfortably.

Blasphemy.

I wouldn't say it has "terrible" contrast ratio, but you're right; it's got nothing on the DS Lite screen. I'd still rather play GBA games on the Micro than a phat DS any day, though.

I play my Famicom Micro at the laundromat. Once I pop in my bootleg multi-cart, I'm set while the dryer is running.

Cool Micro! I haven't seen this version before, so this a treat to see. I still prefer the Mother 3 version, though that's just because I'm a Mother nerd.

One more thing worth mentioning is that the Micro will not play GB or GBC games--it's GBA only.Word.

As noted in another thread, while the GB Micro has a standard headphone jack, you can't use the link cable and run it off AC power at the same time. The link cable is also nonstandard, so you can't use it with the other GBAs. It probably doesn't matter much to most people, though.

I got this version used at the the Labor Day flea market they have nearby every year. It didnt come with a box or anything though. I keep it in my backpack in case I need to kill some time at work.

That's the version that I've got. The inside of that box is a very boring place, nothing like the Jap version :(

I bought mine a few years ago for $40 and am mostly indifferent towards it. I much prefer my black GBM and I absolutely love my SP+
