View Full Version : Channel 3 or 4?

Atari 5200

Back in the day, we all had a choice on the channel we played games on. Channel 3 or channel 4. Now in my experience there was absolutely no difference in the quality of picture or anything else. All that I thought it was, was a preference. So what's your preference? Channel 3 or Channel 4?

That was a big mistake. Everyone knows the higher scores are always obtained on channel 4. Try it sometime and see.

I have always played on channel 4. It always bothered me when I played somewhere else and they had it on channel 3.

Channel 4 when it was between these two, because I used channel 3 for the systems where it's 2 or 3.

Channel 4 because in my area Channel 3 had a very strong signal compared to Channel 4 and Channel 4 just sucked anyways. :D

I always went with channel 4. I think it had something to do with the fact that 3 was some random cable channel which was always changing, while 4 has always been ABC where I grew up, and thusly, it was a channel I'd regularly watch.

Back in the day? I *still* use channel 3 :) I found using a very old commodore RF cable (the plug itself looks ancient!) give the absolute best clarity. Using it on the Turbografx now and it looks just as clear as if I were using a Turbobooster. Pretty amazing!

Always went with 3 because we had a local channel 4

I would always put it on channel 3. But once in a while i would put it on channel 4, so once i was done gaming, i was ready to watch tv. There was no local channel on 3. I still use channel 3.

I just used channel 4 because 3 always was used by the cable.

I played some games on Channel 3, even on a Black & White television ...
But now, the old SEGA Master System Super Compact use Channel 13. It has Alex Kidd in Miracle World build in and the pause button is near the other buttons, this button is used to change the items brought during the game. Some games use this button on the SEGA Master System.

Channel 4, obviously, because there was a real TV station on channel 3 and it might interfere.

Channel 3 for me because Channel 4 (KOB) is the local NBC affiliate, excepting for the first six weeks I had an Atari and lived in a different state where these positions were reversed.

Channel 3 since it always worked for me, and I like the number three.

Channel 3, becuase it is a well known FACT that people who play on channel 4 worship the baby-eating goat god BA'AL and have poor personal hygiene!

I always played on 3, But I didn't have any local channels nearby, Plus I didn't play any games on RF until October 2003.

How does the extended AVGN song go? "When you turn on your TV... Make sure it's tuned to channel 3!"

I played on channel 3...because that's what I was told to play it on by all of the "hardcores"!

The real hardcores don't need to say they are, but yes, we all play on channel 3.

On my old Hitachi TV, any button could be channel 3, or 4, or 5, or 13 lol. I could manually tune and assign each button on the TV to represent whatever VHF/UHF signals it could pick up. That TV served us for over 20 years before finally giving up the ghost :(

Channel 3, but that's because most of my rf gaming back in the day was on a 2600 and there was a strong tv signal on channel 2. Side question, which systems besides the 2600 used channels 2/3?

Misto

I used channel 3 too. Channel 4 was a local station, and never worked with consoles correctly.

Channel 4 is for freaks. Besides, every RF console supports 3, while only some can use channel 4 (the others use 2 or 3).

I had to use channel 4 because channel 3 was a CBS station that had a strong signal. It would foul up the video some when trying to play it on 3. Channel 4 on the other hand had nothing being broadcast through it.

4 when possible. Here, Channel 4 was always the Prevue/TV Guide Channel, which I always kind of used as a "default" channel in the days before digital cable.

Back years ago it was Channel 4 since we had a news channel on 3. Today I use both where Atari systems use C3 and Sega/Nintendo use C4. Easy right?

Channel 4 for lyfe. Unless of course the TV I'm using has channel 91.

You guys are Crazy, channel 4 ftw!

I was known to go to my friends' houses and when I wanted to play games, I would switch it to channel 4 when they had it set to channel 3 (I would flip their channel switch on the console).

Yeah channel 4!

Nope, I am not carzy. Channel 4 (WTMJ) is the local NBC affiliate. It is no go for using it to play video games as a result.

Ch 4 didn't even work for me, so it was always ch 3.
