Sure. This is a fairly popular early 80's arcade game that got ported to a fair number of systems. I used to love it.

The correct spelling is "Amidar" and this may have been getting in the way of your search efforts. It's a reasonably well known game to those of us who lived though its heyday.

I picked up a copy of Amidar for the Atari 2600 a couple of years ago. It's not that bad of a game. It's a game when you have a few minutes, you can just pop it in a play.
Good Luck.

For a similar game (i.e. clone/ripoff), check out Spiderdroid for the 2600.

I've gone on record saying that Amidar is my favorite arcade game ever. I've also gone on record to say that the 2600 version is horrible, absolutely horrible.
The only other home version I've heard of is for the Casio PV-1000 system (Japan only), and that's the main reason I've been obsessed with wanting one for years now.
Who wants to take on the challenge of programming a Colecovision homebrew of this fine game? I'm throwing down the gauntlet!

Y'know, I think this is the second or third time you've mentioned this; next time you're in my neck of the woods, seriously, remind me to let you sell me on the virtues of this game. There's something about Amidar and Pepper II that I just don't "get" - I understand how to play them, but I guess the appeal has eluded me all these years. Maybe you can get me in the right mindset to see what you're seeing here. I don't think Amidar sucks or anything, but all these years later, I'm still going "huh??"
Then again, I suppose lots of folks feel that way about the Odyssey2. :p

Perhaps there's something mentally appealing to me about working toward the goal of completing the boards, filling in the boxes. Pepper II is very similar and I've said before that it's my second favorite arcade game.
On a more superficial and sensory level, I absolutely love the music and the sound effects. Amidar has these bouncy little tunes; Pepper II has the Alfred Hitchcock theme. I love all of the Konami and Exidy games from that era.
Another large factor is probably the context of my childhood, playing Amidar at George's Quick Mart (a huge room filled with obscure secondary and tertiary classics) and Pepper II at Jr. Food Mart. Both were in Booneville, Arkansas, by the way. My memories of and childhood associations with those games are very positive; there's a very strong emotional connection.

C'mon PDF, you might as well say you don't get the appeal of Pacman. :D Which of course they're essentially inventive clones of, with the whole "clear the board" ideal. One you eat the dots, the other you fill in the spots. :)
And I'm sure you know that of course.. I guess to answer your question it does have kind of an addictive quality to me which I can't really describe. That being said, it only lasts for a board or two then I get tired of it :p

I played much of Amidar as a wee lad on the 2600. But, MAN! That damn game is hard! I think I got to level 3 only a very small amount of times. The game used to frustrate me, but like most VCS games, there was no point other than points, so it was no biggie...just throw in any other game and get some more points!
If I tallied all the points I've earned in my life I'd probably be a quadrillionaire of some sort. Do these things earn interest?

Sorry, thanks to the chaos on Wall Street, your collected interest on those points was used last week to help bail out the banks. Sorry, guess we should have given you the memo 2 weeks ago... I place all the blame on my secretary.

I used to play Amidar on the Atari 2600 all the time. I liked the idea of painting the levels and the fact that it was monkey-centric. I remember being impressed the only time I got to play the arcade machine, which I remember being set up in a grocery store.

I always thought it was a pig for some reason...or am I thinking of a different game?

Hmmm, that rings a bell. Was this a hacked version or the second player icon? Man, I forget...it's been so long. Or was the pig an enemy? Or did the monkey just look like a pig? Man, you had to say that!

The VCS game is pitiful, pitiful interpretation of the arcade game. It is super-hard (the arcade game isn't a breeze, though) and it looks awful (naturally).
Try MAME.

It was definatly the player 1 controlled character. I played it through Mame though so it could very well have been a hacked version. Or a monkey that I thought looked like a pig. Or a different game all together. I don't remember, I'll have to check when I get home.

There are two different boards that alternate, ad infinitum.
On odd boards, you're a gorilla, picking up coconuts (well, I think they're coconuts), being chased by jungle savages. Picking up all the coconuts around a box fills it in.
On even boards, you're a paint roller, painting lines, being chased by pigs. These boards are harder, because the only way you can extend your paint line is to build adjacent to an already-completed box.
On all the boards, almost all of the enemies move around in zig-zag fashion; they always have to turn the next corner. There is one (a "tracer", I think?) which just circles the perimeter continuously. Filling in the corner boxes temporarily allows you to turn the tables on the enemies, à la Pac Man. You also have a few "jumps" that you can use to avoid the enemies--but it makes them jump, not you.
In between every board is a bonus phase where a pig is going across the screen, and you have to press the button at just the right moment for him to pick the correct path that will lead to a cluster of bonus bananas.
Just like real life.
