I found this disk with a bunch of DC games at a thrift shop (most of which I bought) and see that the online guide says you need a special memory card to use it? I haven't tested it yet as I just walked in, but any info would be greatly appreciated on this one.

Yeah, there's an ugly black memory card that you need to have in your controller in order to use the gameshark. I haven't tried it without the memory card though.

It won't work without that memory card dongle that was oh so greatly designed so as to block the bottom VMU port for no good reason. Opening up that dongle the card is just that, a somewhat longer shaped memory card.
I'm not sure but I think there was also a CDX Lite version released which may not have required a dongle for use. But the original CDX did require that thing.

Yea, my advice will pretty much be AVOID AVOID AVOID!
Try hard for code breaker. I bought both new and the gameshark is the worst.
My personal opinion though.

There's a pirate version that works with a standard memory card, but I haven't tried it yet.

The dongle is required
I use my dongle whenever I have a tough time playing.

You need to go with the Gameshark Lite.
It requires a VMU of any type (no dongle), plus it will boot imports. ;)

I think the idea was to put it in the second port and leave your regular VMU in the first port.
Though that screws you for rumble packs.

Well, yea. Still, how many of us actually used those rumble packs. Sure I bought several over the lifespan of the dreamcast. Never used them though. I still have one new left somewhere in my room.

That's what I meant by that. You weren't able to use a rumble pack and since DC games had rumble...that was poor designing. When you open up the CDX dongle their is absolutely no reason for that stump, none. It's just an extra long memory card, a completely flat board.

Only if it includes my rumble (a.k.a. vibrator) pack.
