View Full Version : Anyone know of a good N64 memory card?

Well, I have a large grouping of N64 memory cards. Two kinds - the 4x with the little slider on top to change, and the little 1st party ones. Unfortunately most are all filled up with my ghost data from Mario Kart. Those that aren't are corrupt. This is well over six cards, if you count the 4x as four. Does anyone know of a way to fix them, or of a really good card that i can now use?

If storage is an issue, couldn't you just use one of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DexDrive).

I've had the PS1 version for years and love it. Well, "loved" it I should say. It hasn't gotten very much use since the PS3's unlimited virtual memory cards feature came out.

Will the DexDrive work on a Windows XP computer?

So basically I save whatever data onto a working memory card, and then plug it into the DexDrive? So I can chuck all the others?

Yes, it works on Windows XP. The only trouble you might have is the serial port connector. Most computers don't have these anymore, but there's always serial port/USB adapters and the like.

Wow these things are cheap, I think I am going to get one. Anything I need to know? I just need the drive and a couple floppies, yes?

Not sure what you need floppies for. The data stores right on your hard drive. The floppy disks pictured on the box are what the save file storage program comes on. You can always download it if your computer doesn't have a floppy drive anymore.

I use Dexter (http://www.neillcorlett.com/dexter/), although I have no idea if it works on the N64 version Dex Drive. Maybe someone else here knows.

Now it's been awhile since I fired up my n64, but I don't think I ever had a memory card. Is this to play your game on multiple carts (if you own multiple copies of a game) or do the saved games sometimes get lost over time?

A lot of games need a memory card. For me right now I just want to play Gauntlet Legends, but TWINE, Blitz, and some others use it. They are also good for transferring data which helped my with my Create a Wrestlers when I switched to a better condition cart.

Oh really for some games can't save games w/o a memory card I didn't know that. Good to know - thanks!
