Sega announced that it will bring Phantasy Star Portable, the on-the-go flavor of its popular Phantasy Star Universe, to North America in March 2009, finally giving us a reason to cash in those meseta savings bonds grandma left behind before taking off for Palma to retire.

Serving as a kind of prequel to its console cousin, the game will bring a new character to the series, alongside 150 new weapons and items and support for wireless co-op play. Phantasy Star Portable's release in Japan earlier this year was met with rabid sales (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/06/phantasy-star-portable-sells-like-a-monster-in-japan/), and it will be interesting to see if players over here will be just as eager to level up to Sega's latest role-playing offering.

Phantasy Star Zero for DS will be far superior. It will have a better storyline, online play and you can walk around towns instead of navigating static maps.

I mean Phantasy Star Universe has like the crappiest setup story ever especially for the Phantasy Star franchise. Skip this game and get Zero instead, it will be more close to the franchise roots, yet still no full fledged Phantasy Star rpg, which yes would be nice.

I didn't even know they were making a Phantasy Star game for the DS. I'm so excited! :D

My friend and I have been playing PSO since the day it launched on the DC. I'm heading very close towards level 200 on the Cube, which has taken a lifetime. Looks like it's time to create my Fonewm on yet another platform!

I too, started playing on the Cube as of recently. PSO I/II plus is one heck of a gamecube game. Looks like I will be getting both PSP and DS games. Holy cow this is good news.

Personally as one who loves PSO, I could never get into PSU at all.

I agree with being letdown on PSU. They really could have made that better

I agree. PSO, for the gamecube, is much more fun then PSU. I didn't like how there was no offline mulltiplayer mode for PSU.

It's not that PSU doesn't have offline multiplayer being the reason that it's not as good. It's the fact that the gameplay just doesn't play as good as PSO.

In PSO when attacking you have to time your attacks. Using a Force didn't suck as much as using magic in PSU either, not to mention pretty much anyone in PSU could use any spell.

Also. Gunners in PSU were pretty much the best class due to the fact that guns were very quick, pretty powerful, and obviously long range to the point that they owned everything like nothing(making using other classes more like a luxury of having a differentiation in classes, not that the other classes would be any good in comparison.)

In PSO, the Ramar or Ramarl class(Gunners) are easier to use than the Hu and Fo classes, but the others are still good classes to use.

Didn't help that I bought the game at launch when there was like, 5 missions online? Was a total waste of cash, major letdown.
