I know the ones you're referring to, and the packaging clearly says 'officially licensed.'

Sony has officially licensed a few 3rd party accessories in recent years (one would assume this was done to lessen the blow of the loss to Immersion over the force-feedback features in their 1st party controllers).

It probably wasn't made by Sony, but it's probably real as a "licensed product" if it carries the seal.

Do you by any chance mean the Katana wireless controllers? Here's a photo of one:

And the photos linked to below show the packaging (you can see that it's "officially licensed" from the second photo):

They're excellent controllers, I hardly ever use the official controllers I have now. My only criticism is that they use 3 AAA batteries, which seems like a lot... they do last a good while though, and have rumble. I ended up buying a few of them (one black, one blue) mainly because they're very similar to the Sega Surfwave wireless PS2 controller (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/alxbly/PS2/SurfWaveWirelessPlayStation2Control.jpg) that came out in Japan a few years ago, which was also excellent. But these were half the price!
