I managed to snag an early copy and, though I've only spent about 45 minutes with it, it's already distinguished itself as one of the most charming and original games I've ever played.

Take your time with every tutorial as they're all very much worth watching.

While the LBP servers are down currently (I guess they won't turn up until next week) the offline experience is already absolutely amazing.

While it will ultimately be up to the community to deliver the content that will truly take the game to a new level, so far, this is the real deal delivering on the promise of the "2.0" game.

Gears and Fallout will need to be better than perfect in order to provide any "game of the year" competition.

I've met the guy who does the song they use in the commercial. :)

He's a friend of a friend. I was happy to hear he got picked up for a commercial, even if it was by Sony. He makes good music, I hope this gives him a shot to really make something out of his career.

His name's Scott Wynn, and the band is called The Panderers.
Here's a vid of him playing the LBP song, called "C'mon", at a show I went to in Northern Kentucky. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGHUePqapAY

In this vid, from the same show, you can actually see me if you have a good enough monitor (I can't quite make me out on mine, but I was able to see it fine on a friend's. I guess my monitor's too dark). Anyway, when the guy with the camera turns around to film the crowd, you can see me a bit of the way back. You can see light reflecting off of my glasses. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvvIb68Zgsw

As for LBP itself, I got a chance to play the beta, and it was cool, but I found the control to be a little loose and imprecise. Still, I'd pick it up easily if I had a PS3.

I'm guessing by now most of you have heard of this already. Pretty silly, in my opinion, but whatever. Anyone who manages to get their hands on an original copy will have a nice collector's item.

Luckily, I have friends who own a game store and they're holding one for me.

Bojay1997
10-22-2008, 01:29 AM
I don't think this is going to be much of a collector's item, despite the slightly erratic Ebay prices. I was at four different Toys R Us stores today and they went ahead and sold it anyway, despite the fact that the register system required a manager's override. Same with Blockbuster and just about every mom and pop game shop in America. Several on-line retailers guaranteed release date delivery and shipped last week, so lots of other people got it that way. Word is FYE is going to start selling it tomorrow. Not only that, but if you want to play on-line with other people or download new levels, you have to install the patch, so you won't be able to access the song in question anyway whether or not it is technically on your first print disc.

Man this game is amazing and quite additive. It's like the ultimate platforming game, with extras out the wazoo. I've only been online checking out a few user created levels, and pretty impressive what people have made.

I haven't been able to get online yet so I've been focusing on the story mode.

I'm about 85% - 90% on most of the levels now including the "no death" item on every level except the wheel of death. That level is brutal.

Creating a level from scratch is very, very daunting. I'm waiting until I get online to get some ideas about how other people have put levels together. I know someone made a shmup level so I'm excited to check that one out and see how they did it.

Oh, and Stephen Fry = teh win.

Picked this up Monday and didn't get a chance to really sit down and play it until last night. So far I think it's great, it takes me back to when games were simple and fun to play. The tutorial's for the level creator are fantastic, there's one for almost everything you can use and it helps you in a step by step process, so you can progress with it at your own leisure.

Hopefully the servers will be back up and running soon, I'd like to try out some user levels and see where I stand on the scoreboards.

I was literally online playing yesterday when the servers went down.

Played for about an hour today online with multiple strangers.

Conceptually BRILLIANTLY designed online mode.

ALL the online levels are (or may be) "populated" at any given time by the first Sack-person in there ... you join ... and when the level is done you go back to the leaders home box.

If you decide to leave mid level, the other users have the option to follow back to your sack-crib.

There was some MAJOR lag during play ... but in the sections where the lag smoothed out, it was great.

I'm really looking forward to Sony and MM getting their servers up to speed and as lag free as possible.

I'm sure I have MUCH more to learn about the whole experience ... so if you're online in LBP look for me!

Frankie_Says_Relax

Played some more online yesterday.

Sony and MM appeared to have corrected the lion's share of the server/lag issues.

Played with three strangers and encountered little to no lag.

It's a really fantastic experience when it's lag free.

This game rocks!!!

I'm currently in the process of creating a "Legend of Zelda" themed level with 3 temples, then the final castle & Ganon fight. It just takes so much time playtesting it... I've played too many online levels that weren't tested well and are half-broken and/or incomplete.

Well I published my first level, although it is still a work in progress, I'm happy with it so far and will hopefully be able to work on it more this weekend. If anyone is interested it's name is X Marks the Spot, it's not very long, but again hopefully I'll be able to add more to it by Sunday.

It just takes so much time playtesting it... I've played too many online levels that weren't tested well and are half-broken and/or incomplete.

It's hard to understand why people wouldn't test their levels before they publish them. Every time I add something to my level I always test to see if it's doable and if I feel that a jump is too difficult, I go back and adjust it to where it's a little bit easier. Of course that's not saying my level is a cake walk, the very beginning of the level will probably give people problems, I even have problems doing it myself sometimes.

Hey all,

Please check out my level, it is Super Mario Bros. 3 1-1 and heart it if you like it ;)

My PSN is Meancode of course.

I am working on a SMB 3 1-2 and H.E.R.O. level right now too. Hope to have them done soon.

Just bought the game and I haven't been checking out player-created levels yet, but it sounds like I should do so.

I like the way the online play works--if people are around, you play with them. If not, no big deal, you don't have to wait for an hour for the damn lobby to fill. You just go on until they show up. My only beef with it is that people rush you through the level, so it's best to check the level out by yourself before going online.

How do you punch? People keep knocking me off of skateboards and shit. I need to get some revenge.

You hold L2 or R2 and then you can swing your arms with the 2 analog sticks. Swing one way and then back to slap someone.

Here is a video of the level I made

Nope, can't say that I have. I've been playing it with three friends literally all day, and haven't had a single problem. Color me lucky.

There are some truly excellent player created levels out there. I wish I had the time to mess around with the level editor more...

You can't save them to your hard drive, but you can 'heart' them(read as 'bookmark') in the Pod menu once you're done playing them. You can search for levels you've hearted, which works pretty well.

Has anyone played the Silent Hill level? It's short and easy, but they NAILED the atmosphere. Also, the prizes are absolutely great: the 'save' icon, and a neat little Pyramid Head.

The "Toilet" level had me in stitches. There's also a WIP "Dawn of the Dead" level. They take it as far as the mall. You get to smash zombies in a car too. Looks promising.

I'm noticing the majority of the user-created levels are tributes to other games. The Bioshock levels I've found are impossible, and the Donkey Kong one is bitch-hard as well.

Anybody see the porno level? Wonder how long that'll stay around.

I've got a question. As I've been playing, I almost always choose 'Play online', but very seldom am I ever actually joined by anyone, and rarely does anyone join me. Is that normal, or might I have something wrong? I have had a couple good, multiple level sessions with a couple people, and a total lag-fest on the level with the fire-serpent train things. In that lag-fest was the only time I heard anyone voice-chatting, but I couldn't confirm if they could hear me or not.

why does nobody else seem to want to collect all the stuff (not even in the 2-player areas)? Am I just that far behind the curve?

I've had that online problem, too. I don't know why that is.

And as far as collecting all the stuff goes, I think that the percentage of people interested in actually creating new levels is far outstripped by people who just want to play them. Those people are competing for points and leaderboard positions, not for new stuff fer de goodie bag.

Speaking of the goodie bag, can anyone point me at a list online of where to find all the creation stuff? I'm nearly done with the levels that came shipped, and I'm missing all kinds of stuff(rope, emitters, 'meanie' engines, elastic, etc. etc. etc.).

Yeah, I've also noticed that people tend to push me through the level, so I get wise. I play every level in an area (all of Frida's levels, all of the King's levels, etc.) on my own first, then go back and re-do them online to get all the items in the "X2" areas with co-op, and to have fun doing the challenges online with people. I think perhaps many people are taking a similar approach as well.

As for voice chatting, I have yet to see anyone using voice chat on LBP. Maybe one out of every 20 people use voice chat on Metal Gear Online as well, and when they do, they don't talk. I've just come to expect that on PSN, due to the fact that a headset doesn't come with the PS3. MGO would be the perfect game where you'd think it would come in handy, but I've never seen it used much. When I have heard it working (I have a Motorolla Blue Tooth headset that I use with my cell phone) I could barely hear anything.

My PSN is PeteDorr and the level is caled "Game World - volume.1" so I assume searching "game world" will bring you to my level. I'm kind of put off by all the "trophies galore" levels that users seem to be creating ...

... personally I think achievements should be ACHIEVEMENTS (ie not just handed out), and I'm a bit weary of jumping into a level that's going to cheaply award them to me.

Has anybody played any of those levels? Thoughts on them?

Since I have an eager 7 year old son as an LBP creator and test pilot (he tore into the creator mode before I did and spent over 5 hours in it!!), I'm focusing on making and publishing easier kid-friendly levels that contain lots of off-the-wall characters. I can see that many of the online levels are going to have a hardcore slant to them, and the younger kids will need some stuff to play as well.

I picked up LPB yesterday and checked out a couple of user generated levels. I saw ones that only played music for other games as you drove by them. Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, and a couple others were in there for music. Then I played some levels that were Donkey Kong, God of War, Sonic. It is pretty neat and makes me wonder if I'll ever get around to making one. I like the game as a whole so far but I'm too into Fallout 3 right now to get too into this one.

Yeah I played that Gradius level, very impressive. I finally was able to get my dino costume parts(not dying is tough). It looks great with the Medusa hands and skin. I'm thinking about getting the monster sized strategy guide, just to see where all the hidden goodies are, and some help with the create mode. What I'm really looking forward to are the spacesuit and pumpkin costume pieces, along with others.

I've been pondering what kind of level to create, perhaps a Castlevania level.

It finally came in the mail today from Gamefly. I was thinking of buying it at a reduced price, but I don't think I'm going to after all. It's a really good game, but co-op and level creating are big parts of it, neither of which interest me. I hate the fact that I can't collect everything in certain levels because you need another person. Collecting is one of the central parts of a platformer, and if I can't get everything on my own, I'm not even going to bother going for 100% in any of the levels.

Some of the user-created levels are cool, but many of them aren't. I'm most likely just going to finish the story mode and send it back in a week or so.

While you're certainly entitled to your opinion, it's squarely in the critical minority.

Interesting that you brought up Gears of War. As technically excellent as that game was I felt that most of the story mode was a repetitive "chore" ... run, duck behind a grey rock, pop out shoot a grey alien, jump over grey rock and hide behind grey column, pop out and chainsaw another grey alien, rinse and repeat.

Co-ops fun for campaign(I beat it once), never tried it alone, but the game is all about multiplayer.

I just dont get it, this is a game I should like. I generally like all types of games(save for sim racers and most FPS's). I usually like weird games, and I think this game is somewhat unorthodox. I love 2D platformers (I know this is 2.5D) and this one is just so bland(gameplay wise not environment wise). I just find it hard to believe that I dont enjoy this game. The only thing I have not been able to play is online multiplayer cause it always disconnects when I try to join a game with other ppl in it. Yes, Gears multiplayer is where it's at.

That being said, don't give up on the online multiplayer on LBP...sounds like you've written it off pretty fast.

The single player offline levels get better as the game progresses and some of the created levels that are published online are brilliant, and you can play all of those online with other players.

I started out with shitty connection speed and disconnects online, but after the recent software and firmware updates, it's gotten a lot better.

Are you talking about the "Jalapeno" levels? I just got there myself and some of the multiplayer stuff is a bitch (the part with the carts is a real challenge. And it mostly has to be done right the first time or you have to start the whole level over again!)

I'll add you if I get a chance soon. I need someone willing to work with me on that, and who's willing to use a headset because it's starting to get complicated.

It took quite a while to find someone that was willing to try/work on that cart section w/ the bombs. We first were trying with a group of 3, and I was the only one that understood what was supposed to happen, but I could tell one of the other two really wanted to get it done. So eventually the 3rd left, then 2 more joined. Somewhere during the time with the other 2 the one guy 'got it'. After that, and once the other 2 left, it really wasn't that hard.

The main thing I found is that people always want to pull the loaded cart across the gap, but you really need to push it.

Little Big Planet is quite possibly the most amazing game I've ever played. The story mode levels are some of the most fun levels in any games I've ever played, and the user-made stuff is pretty crazy. The Gradius and Tetris levels are awesome. I've got a couple levels of my own in the works, but making levels is not quick.

The story mode levels are really difficult "cooperatively", but that spawns an entirely new type of fun. There really isn't anything else like grabbing someone's ankle mid-jump and making them miss the jump.

And for those who have them and aren't aware of this feature ... the Playstation 3 Eye camera has an amazing sound condensing microphone on top of it which functions in open-channel mode when plugged in during a game of LBP. (And pretty much every other PS3 game that uses voice-chat).

I use it for games with online chat, and even though I'm about 10 feet away from my TV other online users claim that it comes through loud and clear.

So, if you own the PS3 Eye camera, get some use out of it!

I need 8 more people to play my online level. I don't need any hearts or anything, and you don't need to finish the level. Just load it up, and then exit.

Wow, you are on my friends list and I didn't even know. We must always sign in at different times or something cause i've like never noticed you.

I'll give you a +1.

I want this game :(. I noticed it on GAC's deal page but it was only a one day sale, which is actually the amount of time I missed it by. I also want a US version since it's had a US release. I only import releases that we haven't or won't get(hence why I'm not importing Demon's Souls and I want that one.)
