I have to admit that I never quite "got it". I've played a few, from the NES Black Bass series to the Dreamcast Sega Bass games but I still have a pretty hard time getting into these games. I even bought one of those fishing rod controllers to see if that might help - and it did - but this genre still isn't something I feel the desire to go back to, ever.

So what's the appeal? Do you have to be a real fisherman to truly enjoy these? Am I simply not playnig the best games? What the dillyo?

No, but I think that, like most fishermen, you must have consumed copious amounts of alcohol to get any enjoyment out of it. (No offense to real fishermen out there, but it's just like Baseball)

I do okay on the Sega Bass ones, until I hear that stupid girl's voice yelling "FISH! FISH! FISH!". It just cracks me up too much and I usually lose the fish.

As far as the genre goes, I've tried it and it never appealed to me either. I guess the fact that there's NO REAL water around is 90% percent of the problem. Fishing does require water, and being in front a TV screen has no where near the effect of an actual ocean, lake, river, or pond.

Even then, I don't see how fishing is an enjoyable affair. I say, replace the fishing rods with spears. Let these so called fishermen catch fish with a pointed stick and a good set of flippers!

I picked up Sega Bass Fishing only because it was bundled with a VMU (The bundle was priced less than a VMU by itself.) I thought it was an interesting diversion, but using the gamepad made the experience loose something and I just wasn't into it. A few weeks later I scored a new fishing controller for $2.50 so I figured the time right to break it out again. That seemed to make all the difference. I NEVER had the paitence for real fishing but I think I could play Bass Fishing all day now. I do admit I think it looks rather pathetic to anybody who drops by, but I like it so I don't care.

The problem I find with fishing games is that it's not realistic. I want to be sitting in front of my tv for at least an hour before the fishing rod controller gets a little nibble then nothing happens. If that happened it might seem more realistic for me. But as far as current fishing games go. They just plain suck. (I think it's because it makes me think I am a good fisherman, and then I go out to the lake and I catch nothing :( )

I'm dying to play the Japan-only "Space Fishermen" game on the PS2. Have you seen the videos of this in action? Insane.

What? Fishing Derby rules. And don't forget my favorite fishing game, G. Darius!

i can't stand most fishing games, there's not enough action, way too boring for me. i played a n64 fishing game that i was able to get into a little, only because you were able to upgrade boats and stuff like that, but it still didn't keep my attention for very long.

Sega's Bass Fishing and Marine Fishing are the only two I ever found to be worth playing.

I've fished in streams and lakes my whole life incidentally, but I wouldn't say I "Love" real fishing since I haven't gone for a few yrs.

The only appeal to me is the ... uniqueness of it. I own only one game, and that's because I could get the fishing controller for it. I break it out only when I have people over and only to suprise them a bit.

I can't imagine playing one without the fishing controller. And I can't fathom why anybody would want it to be more realistic. If I want to sit in front of my TV for an hour doing nothing I'll play MGS2.

Yeah, they're kinda boring, & I'm not an angler by nature, but I got "Action Bass" (PSX) & wanted more, it being somewhat bland (dull underwater environments, only catch bass, etc) I then tried "Saltwater Sportfishing", & it's quite an improvement! Several kinds of fish to catch, various worldwide locations, multiple baits, etc. It's also something to show people who aren't into the RPG/survival horror/shooter games, like Dad or an older brother...
