I didn't see a thread on this, so I have to hook this game up with some love.

I've been playing this game for a few hours, holy crap- it is seriously awesome.

It's a horrible time for this game to come out because of all the heavy hitters in the next few weeks, but I can promise anyone that likes survival horror that they'll totally love this *gem* of a game.

I usually hate over the shoulder 3rd person (I liked RE4, but I hated the camera. I wanted to like Gears of War, but I couldn't) but this game makes it a must, you can really see around corners and such with the camera.

Grapics- top notch.

Sound- top notch (major kudos, the sound is really chilling and adds a huge level of fright. not only the creatures, but the music they play.)

Control- tight, PERFECT button layout (360) with tons of abilities and no struggle on how to use them.

Story- who cares (I don't play for the story 99% of the time)

I would go as far as to say that this game is what RE5 has to try to beat.

Dead Space is a surprise hit, I didn't expect it to do bad or anything, but damn if it wasn't sold out at every store I went to. I was lucky enough to find a single copy at Gamestop Thursday and even get guy there said he's surprised it's selling soo well, so I think the game is holding it's own and I'm sure Little Big Planet being delayed until next week is going to help sell some more copies.

The controls are great, the menu system is excellent and the atmosphere is top notch. I think EA has a great franchise on their hands, lets just hope they don't mess it up.

Yeah, great game. Had a marathon session over the weekend and beat it. It has some issues (minor), but it's a great ride. Shame the ending had to take the cliffhanger route though. Really getting tired of that with every game I play through.

I ran through it in about eight hours, so it's certainly something you can get through if you're low on time. It's worth it for experience. Tense and a lot of great scares.

I care. /Luke Skywalker

To each his own, of course, but I don't think I'd see the point in playing a horror game if I wasn't going to pay attention to the story.

That said, did anyone watch the six-part animated comic prequel on Live Marketplace? It was free, and it definitely piqued my interest. I don't have the game yet, but after watching that I plan on picking it up when I can.

I'm enjoying what I've played so far. It really is the closest any game has come to RE4 in 4 years. Which is awesome. One thing they dropped the ball on though...I wish there was a damn 180° quick turn. Hearing something coming up behind me and then being forced to turn around like a tank isn't scary...it's just annoying. Other than that minor issue, Dead Space is a 9 out of 10 easily (so far).

Unfortunately, I think this game is going to get lost in the shuffle of A-list titles this Fall.

So far, this is my game of the year.

I'll be damned if EA didn't hit the nail they were aiming for square on the head. It's Aliens crossed with The Thing in the best possible way. They drew me so far into the game that I ordered the movie that comes out next week(though I expect to be disappointed).

I don't think it's gonna get lost in the shuffle, Heybtbm. I know four people who've bought it already, and the internet gamer folk seem pretty jazzed about it, almost to a man.

I was one of those "guys" who bought the limited edition. I've played a good 6-7 hours into the game and I am very suprised at how well this game came out. Great graphics, control, gameplay, sound. I'd give it about an 8.5-9 out of 10...somewhere in there. The limited edition came with the prequel animated movie, and after watching that, made the game that much more interesting. The game is better than the movie to say the least. I know a lot of people are going to be getting Little Big Planet, Fable 2, Castlevania: OoE, but don't let this one pass you by. I'd say its a mix between RE4, doom 3, and a hint of bioshock. Definately one of those games where each time you enter a new room, you never know what to expect.

well I was on the fence about this one till now. If I don't get it for my birthday or Christmas, I'll definately pick it up after the holidays.

Wow, I haven't had the chance to play it yet. Makes me happy I took a chance on the LE, not that I'm actually going to open it up. Sealed LE FTW!

I've been hearing alot of great things about this game. I buddy of mine called me yesterday morning, going on and on about how awesome this game is. I'll definatley buy it, maybe when I am finished playing Castlevania: OoE.

The PC Version was released today. I had it on preorder ($10 cheaper on PC). Gamestop had plenty of extra copies (PC). A little disappointed in the length of the game being reported but I'll live if it's really good.

Animated movie comes out next week for those getting into this. Play Magazine reviewed it well...

its kinda cheezy in the sense of it being a sci fi horror flick, but if anything, it is good to watch before you jump into the game. The movie has plenty of blood splattering death in it though, definately up there in the gore. You will understand the story of the game so much better if you watch the movie. Apparently there is a bluray version of the movie coming out if anybody is interested. Here is an IGN review of the movie, whatever that is worth to you.

http://dvd.ign.com/articles/919/919842p1.html

I watched the movie and read the article after, and I agree with what this review says. The game does make a better movie.

I'll have to pick this up sometime before x-mas. I'll be too busy with Castlevania: OOE and LittleBigPlanet whenever it gets released.

And some of the tightest gameplay so far this gen, coupled with excellent graphics, a superb audio mix, interesting HUD implementation, and the alien from the Thing. That, good sir, is fine with me. :)

Its a great game but the only thing that bugs me is having to aim to shoot. I hate when a Necro is right behind me and when I turn my first reaction is to jam on the trigger and just blind fire. Instead I melee and the Necro dodges of course and im left open for a stabbing.

Never said it was a problem :P SS2 was a fantastic game :P Just kills me that ppl keep calling it RE with Bioshock :| No its damn system shock ;p

edit: they tickled around with a hud like that with riddick, at least a little bit. The hud was very minimal. Your life did show up on the top left but went away most of the time and your ammo counter was actually on the gun. Its pretty fun and I think more games should do it, as long as its implemented correctly.

I never thought you were criticizing it, Dao2 :). I was agreeing with you; the System Shock legacy is totally there for anyone to see.

I think the Bioshock comparisons are coming from the audio mix, which is very Bioshock, and some of the mechanical designs. They've got the same 'feel' as Bioshock does. Also, not many people experienced System Shock 2(more's the pity).

That means nothing unless people are actually buying it for $350. I could put it on ebay for $1000 buyout. Doesn't mean its worth that much.

Seconded. Also, I don't know what moron would pay $350 for it when it's still in stock at the EA Store for $149.95:

They shouldn't be selling for a penny over retail yet. Any listing proclaiming "out of stock" is just plain lying. Plus, Ebay consumers are just idiots.

Yeah, I kind of thought they were still available. I think people are just caught up in the hype maybe, kind of like the Mana Khemia debacle.

It is NOT in stock, and it hasn't been since launch day. Try adding the game to your cart. Also, if you check completed auctions, there are multiple copies that sold for over 300 each.

It gives me some kind of error now, but this morning I added it to cart and it clearly said "in stock."

Just finished the game, the story was good for what it's worth, I just don't care about the story in games (minus Legacy of Kain or Metal Gear).

About 10 hours to beat it on medium, great game- 9.2/10.

Yeah, I had the story figured out in the first half an hour. Pretty standard sci-fi horror stuff, but well implemented anyway. the pacing is superb.

I'm actually playing through it again. That almost never happens with me. Good on you, EA.

Well I just finished the game tonight and damn it all if it wasn't one hell of a ride, one of the most satisfying games I've played in years. It's true that the story has been done before, but they really did do a nice job on setting it up, even if I pretty much knew what was going to happen by the end.

Kudos to EA for making the game, hopefully they won't ruin it by making unnecessary sequels.

I wouldn't mind seeing a sequal but only if they take thier time with it like it seems they did with this one. I haven't actually bought a game made by EA in a long time but they sure as hell shocked me with Dead Space. I'd like to go through it again but, ya know, Fallout 3 and all.
