oh yes!!
"Atlus keeps its Japanese RPG import streak alive with the North American release of Legacy of Ys: Books I & II for the Nintendo DS, due to ship February 10, 2009. The role-playing game is a remake of Ys I & II, two classic games now twenty-plus years long in the tooth.
The two games were released separately in Japan earlier this year, but Atlus is being charitable to our wallets, keeping both remakes on a single cart. Looks like they're going for about $35 in U.S. Dollars, which wouldn't be so bad. The Turbografx-16 version of Ys I & II is currently available on the Wii Virtual Console, should you desperately be in need of an Ys fix."

I will care if and only if they remake Ys IV. Book I & II is perfectly good on the Turbo CD.

Normally I hate remakes, but I am a Falcom whore! :rocker:
Regardless, i'm sure i'll pick it up even though I doubt i'll play it much because my Turbo Duo version is flawless!

These remakes apparently suck, but it's nice to see both being released on a single cart instead of separately. I'll be buying it just to show some support for US releases of Ys. Lord knows we don't get enough of them as it is.

I had to find some damn blue orb, and then I could face him. I spent hours trying to find it to no avail. You wouldn't happen to have the password for that spot, would you?

I just finished buying this on the Wii VC. Guess I'll have to fork it out again.
Funny thing though was I grew up on the SMS version of Ys. The Turbo CD one came out later and I took a pass on it, so now it just feels "weird" to me LOL

While some may say that these remakes suck, I still will get them just to have a chance to play them on my good ol' DS. BTW, these are more like 3D version remake of the PC remakes (which are incredible in their own right). PC remakes + translation patches = Awesome Ys :)

But Ys III was brought over for the SNES, Genesis AND Turbo CD already! Unless you mean you want the PS2 remake of III to be brought here? I dont think that'll happen (people despise it but I really liked...although a lot more could have been done with it). As for Ys IV....You can use the English patch for the PC-E version to at least get the text translated in the game. I have it and love it. Once again though, if you are asking them to bring over the PS2 remake of IV (which, technically, is a remake of the SFC Mask of the Sun NOT the PC-E Dawn of Ys)....hmmm..trust me...you dont want it lol ;)

A remaking of Ys III would be interesting, since this title is about the legend of Ys. This game tell the story of Ys and not the other way around (some people erroneously believed that Ys books I & II were the story of the Ys). Sure in the United States there was already the SEGA Genesis and Super NINTENDO versions of this game.
Maybe have some spoilers.

Interesting reading those legends. Reminds me of the third book of the Prydain Chronicles (Castle of Lyr, I think it was called?) with the sea rushing in to destroy the island city. Which, of course, is based on Welsh legends, and there is a lot of cross-population of Wales, southwest Britain, and the coasts of France.

We need a PS3/360 port of Oath in Felghana and a similar-quality revisioning of Mask of the Sun. Then both of them need to be brought to the US.
Now.

I bought it when it first came out. I guess it was 1990 or 1991. It is complete, but the box is a little messy. I had no idea it was worth more than $20. I didn't think it was rare at all.

Those prices are a ripoff. I can easily buy these at a quarter or less for what they're selling. If the game was sealed new, it wouldn't be worth what he/she is asking for. IMO, there are only two Turbo games worth that high: Magical Chase and Dynastic Hero.

I think that the game was a "pack-in" with a Turbo Duo system. The price tag of the *SYSTEM* (including the game) was $200.00 ...
I only got a Japanese Ys III for PC Engine CD-ROM ROM system.
Sure, some years ago their were selling brand new Turbo Duo systems for $200.00! Maybe there are some in stock somewhere. I still need a CD-ROM system to play the Ys III game.

The ps2 version is incredible! We should get the PS2 remakes.....
PS2 version = PC versions except the PS2 had an extra sidequest with 2 new characters (nothing too big). The only thing is that the PS2 version has a few small annoyances...like the screen would shake and/or jitter when going in and out of the menu, the load times were kind of on the long side and the save file size is abnormally huge for some reason. All these little problems probably could have been fixed if given time with a US translation :)

While the on the,TG16 it plays like a side scroller beside being a short game and not too difficult.

Just lately you have sellers on ebay thinking they can rip people off...and price gouge for the game.
Kind of sad realy when it comes to getting TG16 games from ebay.

For some reason Overbites video wouldn't play, so I headed on over to youtube and looked up the DS version myself. Looks like this version is really going to be craptastic!!!
First, they did away with the awesome tackle system and replaced it with Zelda style sword swinging!!! WTF??? Sorry, but that's not Y's. It completely changes the game play style.
Second, it's been what, 15+ years since the original Turbo version? It's also been remade like 4 or 5 times and somehow they ALWAYS manage to screw up the music. The track "PALACE" on the DS version sounds completely butchered. They were like; "Hey! With the DS we can do some decent quality music, but let screw up the composition and make the track noticeably inferior to the land mark Turbo version!"
It's not like the DS couldn't replicate the Redbook audio from the Turbo version, hell there is even room for them to possibly improve areas of the soundtrack... they just... didn't. :|
Like I said before, I am a Falcom whore and will surely by this upon release but I have a feeling i'll be sticking to my Turbo Duo and Sega Saturn versions when I need to play.

For me, it's that they just couldn't keep the very nicely remade 2D overhead view from the PC Ys Eternal games so they mde a just-ok 3D version of it. Not excruciatingly horrible...but not as nice :(
As for the music, I agree. However, they could have VERY easily used the great music from the the PC Ys Eternal (the EXACT .wav files from it, not some newer midi-type remix, mind you) and used it in the DS remakes. Between the 3 soundtracks (Turbo, PC, and Saturn, I actually think I like the PC one the most with the Turbo VERY close second. The Saturn are just okay/passable to me. However, as to why they couldn't use ANY of these in the DS versions is beyond me.......

why do they suck? im kinda excited...
The graphics are a nice drop in quality, the new combat system is totally meh (and the optional original combat system is every bit as meh), the music is disappointing, they were too damn expensive (which the US version addresses perfectly), the added dungeons were incredibly forgettable, etc.
If the price was right, I would have been able to overlook the other faults...but yea. I really hope Atlus adds in an option to have the classic ramming system in there without having to fumble with the touch screen.
But hey, $35 to tell Atlus that there's actually Ys fans out there that'd like to play more Ys games in english. Let's just hope that they don't mistake that to mean that we'll play any Ys game in english because, yea, those Taito remakes were so very.....hmmm.
Actually, after further thought, if they bundled the PS2 remakes of III/IV/V into one package and released it at a price of like $30, I'd totally buy it. Seriously though, someone get on the horn with Falcom and tell 'em we want a PSN/XBLM version of Oath in Felghana like yesterday.

Seriously, I'm wondering if everyone here has the same copy of Ys 3 for the TCD that I do, really, that game had some pretty craptastic stuff going on between the standard Turbo CD acting, whatever the hell that first intro with the spartan guy was all about, and the GOD AWFUL framerate.
The stuttering backgrounds, and the retarded slow down didn't cut it then, and even the rosiest nostalgia glasses can't hide it now. And I'll defend most stuff on the turbo to my death.
Either way, I'll buy this DS port in the hopes that we do see a an Oath in Felghana or Origins port here. I'm prety close to the end of this translated Dawn of Ys, and I need moar Ys, darnit :)

I'm looking forward to this, even if it does turns out to be mediocre, I've always been very fond of Ys and will buy it just to support the series.

I always thought Ys III for the TGCD was somewhat of a disapointment. Then again, I probably rank Ys Book I and II as the best game of all-time. Most fun I ever had with a game. I took bookfulls of notes, and still have them.
