A device you could plug into older model Playstations to use cheats, and play backups/imports.

I have one called 'Goldfinger' and like VACRMH said, it allows you use cheat codes like a Game Genie/GameShark or play backups.
When I first got mine, I thought it was something unique. But it turns out that wasn't really the case.

I see. I never had a Gen. 1 PS. Or any PS1. PS2 was my first.
Thanks.

You gonna need that spring dongle though to boot imports/backups, whoooops that's illegal....... I mean blue/purple/green/gold bottom playstation disks :)

it's a cheat cart that also allows you to easily do a swap trick for loading "backups" or imports. you need a spring for backups/imports, you pop the spring in the lid sensor then boot up with a legit CD in the drive and when it stops spinning swap for your backup/import then close the lid and start the game with or without cheats.

The Game Enhancer 9 was the best version. Like mentioned from the others it allows you to play import games and bootlegs(I don't know why yall call them back ups--we know why you use them). It also let you use Gameshark codes as if it were an official Gameshark. Better still, you could use codes on the import games too. Since I never mod any of my systems---I abolutely loved this device back in the PS1 days and still use it every now and then.

most of these devices are based on the caetla firmware iirc. i have a gamehunter that i still use for testing how well a system reads backups before i mod it, if it does not read them well then i adjust the laser till it does. i have like 3 or 4 of the springy things too if anyone needs one lol

There's plenty of different versions available but they all do the same and basicly look the same. The two models I have are the action replay and the power replay. I cant believe I still got 5 of them.

It's also possible to use these devices for PlayStation homebrew. You use it to connect your console up to your PC via parallel port for debugging code and the such.

... I used to swap trick all the time without a cheat device... does it make it easier? (i.e. you have to swap 3-4 times with the 'swap trick'... do you just do legit in first/swap with backup and done?)
What's the point if you can do it without the dongle?
...heh. dongle.

Doesn't it also allow you to play original Gameboy games in black and white?
Is this the better one that has stealth in it?

it's not a dongle, just a spring that holds down the lid switch. i have a couple of extras if you want one. just pay shipping

there is no stealth for these bootleg cheat carts. they are NOT modchips, just swap tools. people call them external modchips or plugmods but they really just read the region/copy protect key off a legit CD then stop the disc so you can swap.

I have the Gameboy model.

Oh MAN is it awful.
Sure, it has a GB slot and built in GB emulation, however, not only does it not play the GB cart sound through the PS/TV but it plays this awful midi tune on an endless loop.
I've also found that it blows/damages the save battery or save RAM on any US GB cart that you put in it.
A novel accessory, but I wouldn't reccomend it for anything other than PS1 odd/rare item collecting.

I've seen a GB adapter for the PlayStation that used a memory card slot, but never one using the parallel port before. Cool.

Yeah, but I wouldn't use it for Gameboy playing if I got one...
I would rather just get a Breaker Pro, it does the exact thing and actually has stealth.

Whats with your obsession with stealth? Is it some weird fetish for you? I hope you like the Splinter Cell and Metal Gear games. Otherwise I'm not quite sure what to think, lol. But as far as PS1 models go, you really don't need any stealth feature to play the majority of import games as long as you have a good import converter.

it's not called stealth. it uses gameshark codes to bypass the protections.

this is true, most games are unprotected. theres probably like 30-40 games or so that even have protection iirc but it might be more or less i dunno.
i don't have to worry about it cause all my PS1s have multimode 3 chips that have stealth mode and i havent had one game give me the anti-modchip screen yet.

Even with my Game Enhancer and legit retail import games(I never use bootlegs) I've had about 7 games that popped up the anti-mod screen. And I used codes to bypass all but one of those games. Actually, it wasn't even a game. It was a demo disc for an rpg and I could never find the correct code to get it pass that screen. But 1 demo out of over 400 PS1 import and demo disc games is not bad for an external import converter that cost less than $10 and opens my PS1 to exciting new worlds:)

Yeah, I think I may get a Game Enhancer eventually just because it's interesting, but I just bought a Breaker Pro a few moments ago. :)
