Apparently, Nintendo was actually going to put AV Out in the NES 2, and this is apparent in the prototype that has an AV Out similar to the one on the SNES, N64, and GCN.

The difference between this NES 2 control deck and any other top loading NES system is the audio/video out jack as pictured. It is the standard jack output as used on SNES, Virtual Boy, N64 and Gamecube.
Since when did the Virtual Boy have this? O_o

Probably just a mistake.

Why is the link tinyurl when it links directly to the auction? Couldn't you have just linked us straight through?

Being talked about, most likely not a proto

Well, thats pretty slick. It's dumbfounding that Nintendo did NOT go with this design, it certainly had to be cheaper than including the RF unit in the box??
Doesn't seem likely, but what are the odds that this jack also does S-video output with the proper cord? I think the only system that used this jack that did not do S-video was the model 2 SNES.

The bin is $1,500, not $3k. And he's not claiming it's a prototype, only that it's rare.
I think he changed it...I remember seeing $3k...I could be wrong though.

Well a toaster with AV out would be quite useful...

You're right. When I looked yesterday right after the OP posted it the starting bid was $2k and the BIN was $3k.

Never knew there was a Nintendo Age site, awesome!
As for the topic, some think it was a regular top loader, but used part of the board or case from the Japanese NES 2, AV Famicom. I too wish there were more of these made by Nintendo.

If you read the story in the listing, he does claim it is a prototype that Nintendo sold to him because he kept nagging them about it. If only it was always so easy... :)

He claimed it was a prototype when he first listed it.

So what's the verdict? Is it a proto or what?

Dunno - he wouldn't post any info about the receipt because of personal info on it. That doesn't make any sense - just photoshop a black rectangle over your name and credit card #.
Also, just because you've got a receipt from nintendo showing you bought it doesn't mean you couldn't mod it afterwards.
