I have the original disks for both games. I tried to follow the directions on how to get the disks to load in Windows XP on the No Mutants Allowed site, but I"d have to say its just above my user level with computers.
I did a forum search and I see Fallout 1 was available for free on gametap, should I just do it that way?

I haven't tried it myself but I have heard that Good Old Games (www.gog.com) works quite well without the need of any voodoo magic for them to just work. They have Fallout, Fallout 2, and even Fallout Tactics (the humanity!).. $5.99 each, seems very fair.

I do kind of wish there was some way to prove that you already own the discs for these games and get them free.

the gametap version is supposed to work (but still has the normal bug of blacking out on windows ;p open the menu and fool about and it goes away). i had no problem loading my games on xp (theyre fako euro rereleases though so i don't know if they're different then the original discs)

I bought a fako euro shit for 15 bucks and included all 3 ;p so i'd go with that :| It's slightly cheaper and it comes with a box and disc to add to your collection instead of digital download :P

I would definitely go with Good Old Games (gog) no DRM and everything works.

Want to support this service in hopes that they grow there catalog to many more PC classics. Prices seem good so far too.

I'll throw in my vote for the GOG.com versions as well. They work great and are pretty cheap. I don't know if it's true but I've read that the UK version with all three games have been censored to exclude children. Apparently child killing is frowned upon in games in the UK. :2gunfire:

Upgrade to Vista.

Seriously, I got Fallout 1 working quite well with 64-bit Vista and compatibility mode. Have not tried 2 yet though...

Yeah, when you see bits of text floating around that's where the kids used to be. At first, I thought it was part of the game, like cloaked characters or ghosts talking to each other, but it's just the deleted kiddie NPCs.

Did you try just installing the games? XP SP2 here with no problems just running the installer on my crusty old discs.

Edit: That reply was not meant to be snarky, I'm just wondering if you tried a normal install without any "tricks."

Sorry guys, I am a computer nerd as well as a game nerd.

What problems is it doing. Pay for it again at last resort. I know nothing about this game, but would be willing to help you try some stuff to get it working.

By the way, there's a whole bunch of nifty fanmade mods for Fallout 1&2, no? Which ones are particularly worthwhile? The High Resolution patch, perhaps?

Weird. I've managed to get Fallout 1 & 2 working on XP just fine.
