Liberation.
Awesome game, though I'd recommend a mouse to play it with... the interface is pretty brutal if all you have is a gamepad.

I'd agree with pretty much all the picks people have already mentioned... though I'd add: Beneath a Steel Sky, Impossible Mission 2025, James Pond 2, and Superfrog.

Stay away from Total Carnage and Battletoads. The CD32 versions are absolutely terrible.

I can't vouch for the CD 32 version as I don't have personal experience with it, but D/Generation was a GREAT PC game, and the youtube vids of the CD32 version look about the same, just with crappy voice acting and music.

Also, this game is much-hated, but the CD32 version of Microcosm is probably definitive. It's the only version that allowed you take branching paths--something they had been trying to do with every other version but never made it work. If you dig Psygnosis stuff, CD32 Microcosm might be cool.

No GUARDIAN? Come on, now! It's Starfox without the rails in true 3-D. Blocky & simplistic 3-D, but still.

Second on Battletoads being just flat-out dreadful. Push "up" to jump? Did they just not know they had more buttons to work with? LAZY.

How well is CD32 emulated?
I've always had too many headaches with UAE to get into Amiga emulation, but most were due to it not being focused on a single hardware configuration.

Super Skidmarks

That is a good game, but damn, worst title ever.

How so? It doesn't sound bad for a racing game.

I'm sure you do, but you do know what a skidmark is right? Its not just some word they made up for the game's title.

Yes, I know what a skidmark is. I also know what a pearl necklace is, but if someone says "I gave her a pearl necklace", I'm going to chuckle.

No, you've got it wrong... You use the red button to jump. Incidentally, you also use the red button to attack. When you're standing still, pressing the button makes you attack. When you're moving in any direction, pressing the button makes you jump. It's absolutely brutal, and makes the game damn near unplayable. I'm convinced these people never actually played the game before they released it.

This exposes one of the primary problems with the CD32 library: Many of the games are straight ports of Amiga 500 games. Occasionally, they were enhanced with FMV, CD music or other additions, but more often they just took the disk version and burned the same data to CD and called it a day.

Since everyone with an Amiga 500 only had one-button, Atari-style joysticks, this means that unless the programmers went back to work, the game would only use a single button on the CD32 controller. Pretty wasteful, considering there are 7 buttons available.

You also get stupid games asking you if you want sound effects, or music, or both. Why in the hell would I not want both? On Amiga computers, this made sense, because some models didn't have the resources to do both at once, but the CD32 does... so why even give me the option? Some even stupider games don't even give you the option for both, so you're stuck with one or the other (Battletoads does this).

Well, I've never tried it, but as far as I know, UAE itself is the best (only?) option for CD32 emulation...

Actually, the A500 supports two joystick buttons, but there are very few games that take advantage of the second button. R-Type II is the only game I ever owned on Amiga that uses both, but it rocks with the SMS pad.

Turrican II does as well... I have a CD32 pad plugged into my Amiga 3000, and it really helps in the games that DO support extra buttons, otherwise you have to get your foot up on the desk so you can hit the space bar in the heat of the moment or some garbage like that (anyone remember doing this in Contra for the C64? I sure did).

The problem is that mabe 1% of people actually had more than one button, so most companies just didn't bother.

I also recommend Banshee and Disposable Hero, they're pretty good shmups. And also The Misadventures of Flink, certainly the most beautiful platformer on the CD32 :)
