What with all the old school RPGs being ported to the DS and Fallout 3 coming out it got me wondering if Fallout or Fallout 2 could be ported over to the DS.

I don't know much about this kind of stuff so if anyone with more knowledge than I could fill me in as to why or why not that would be great.

Hmm.

Resolution of the screen is too low, but that doesn't really matter since the source code was never released. Now, that doesn't mean someone can't go back, reverse engineer the entire game and build it all over again on a new engine designed specifically for the DS....

....but yea, that'll never happen.

edit - you'd have to restructure the way the game displayed text, completely rebuild the UI, possibly replace the art assets with lower-resolution-friendly alternatives, rebuild the input, rewrite the game engine, etc etc etc etc etc

I would say it would be njot so great due to the resolution of the DS. Your character would take up probably a 4th of the screen at actual size...one screen would have to be all HUD (probably the touchscreen since the controls are mouse based anyway). It could be done, but the graphics would have to be scaled way smaller and look like crap, or you wouldn't be able to see around yourself very far.

Thats my off-the-top-of-my-head answer.

You guys are right I wasn't thinking about the screen quality. Well it's still a cool thought at least :)

If I'm not mistaken, the rights to both games are still held by Interplay, who have been in pretty dire straights for the last 4-5 years. If you're hoping for an official port (to ANY system, let alone the DS), I'd say don't hold your breath.

Still, it would be cool to see. I'd prefer a PSP version though.
