Apple Corps Ltd., the company founded by The Beatles (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/the-beatles/) to administer the band's music catalog, and MTV today teased "an exclusive agreement to develop a global music project." The two camps are scheduled to make an official announcement tomorrow, Thursday, October 30th at 10 am ET (2 pm in the UK). No further details have been presented, save for tomorrow's, um, presenters: Apple Corps CEO Jeff Jones, MTV CEO Judy McGrath and President of MTV Networks Van Toffler.
While we'll have to wait until tomorrow to know for sure, it sounds like MTV has landed a deal to get The Beatles in Rock Band (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/rock-band), either as a standalone product (à la the AC/DC Track Pack (http://www.joystiq.com/tag/acdc/)) or as DLC -- or both. In June, FT.com reported that MTV and Activision were both in talks with Apple Corps for The Beatles rights.http://www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Rumor: The Beatles in Rock Band; MTV & Apple Corps. tease 'unprecedented project' (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/29/rumor-the-beatles-in-rock-band-mtv-and-apple-corps-tease-unpre/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Wed, 29 Oct 2008 18:15:00 EST. Wall Street Journal is making it sound like a done deal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122531701276881747.html
All that remains to be seen is whether this will be a stand-alone game or DLC.

Must be a big deal, as I heard about it this morning on the local talk radio's Wall Street report.

I'm sure it's more. They're probably paying out their asses, so they'll need more than three tracks to make it worthwhile. Plus, I doubt they'd hold and hype up a press conference for a track pack.

This will undoubtedly be awesome- The Who track pack for RB sees more use than any other DLC in any of my rhythm games- but where's my 'Rock Band: Queen'? :(

I wouldn't be surprised if it were a full edition rather than a few tracks. Considering all the classics by them, there's enough material for a full game. A Rock Band: Beatles would definitely be on my to-buy.
@Nebagram: There's a SingStar: Queen edition being released in Europe. Unfortunately, it's not coming to North America. But I agree: a Rock Band: Queen edition would be amazing too.

I would be all over that were it not for the fact I can't get past the first tier of songs on Rock Band vocals... on easy. :(

The game will not be branded with the Rock Band name. It is a brand new game that does take advantage of some aspects of the Rock Band platform, but is a musical and visual journey through the Beatles' entire career.
This sounds too cool.

Well, it does sound like this could be a Rock Band game under a Beatles skin. If they did that though, I don't know why they wouldn't give it the Rock Band brand. Maybe it's more lucrative for the Beatles this way?

For a minute, I thought I was going to have to buy Rock Band 2! Thanks for the link.
I'm really curious to find out more about this upcoming project. What if it's like a Beatles version of Dead Rising where they must hack through crowds of screaming girls? What if it's a Beatles first-person shooter where they have to snipe Blue Meanies?
here's hoping they utilize the whole catalogue and not just the super popular stuff like sgt. pepper.
There's one problem with that: the way their earlier albums were recorded, it'd be impossible to implement them in a game like Rock Band. Most of the instruments were recorded simultaneously live in the studio and many of the overdubs were sound-on-sound...meaning very few, if any, of the instruments and vocals could be separated into individual tracks.
Even transferring their later albums would be difficult because of the tons of bounce-downs and reductions. The audio engineers would have to sift through hundreds of four-track tapes to find the individual instrument tracks.

That is true. The joy of bringing in one of the innovators or recording music.

Singstar Queen IS coming out in North America. It got its ESRB rating (T) and is slated for release in March (disc only), according to Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.

Where are all the Beatles haters from that other thread? I was expecting this one to fill up with a whole bunch of "I'll never play this game because it's THE BEATLES"

I hate the Beatles, but was keeping out of it to be polite. Since you asked where I was though.... here. Actually I don't "hate" them so much as I am completely confused by why they are as loved as they are. I just don't see what's so damn special about them.

Before the beatles, a lot of the songs you'd hear were love songs for the most part, and the Beatles did that for a while as well. But when they began to evolve their musical stylings, song writing, symbolism and performance, they took on a completely different feel. It moved forward popular music.

That's the dumbest thing I've read in a long time.
Anyway, how about we keep the Beatles bashing/praise to the general thread eh? This thread is about the game.

Okay, so now we know that this will be a Rock Band game, and that Ringo's drums and Paul's Hofner violin bass will come with the limited edition bundle. John's Rickenbacker and George's Gretsch will be sold separately, for $100, but I'm not sure if that's each or for both. So that's at least $350 for the complete Beatles Rock Band, uh, experience. Further complicating things will be the release on the same friggin' day of the remastered Beatles albums. There will be the separate stereo albums, a stereo box set, and also a mono box set. No prices have been released thus far for the box sets. I, as a Beatles junkie, want all of this stuff, on the day it is released, because I can't wait. But I may have to wait on the game if the box sets are priced too high. I would much rather have the music than the game. The game will undoubtedly be cool for someone like me, but the music is always first.
Is there anyone else here that is planning on the Beatles hat trick on 09-09-09?

I preordered the $250 set from Amazon, but I am considering cancelling now that I know they are not including these two extra guitars and charging $100 each for them. For $250, I would expect more than a drum set, guitar and microphone, especially since the game itself is still only $60.

Is ANYONE out there excited about this? Besides Karl. :)
I have decided screw it, I'm getting everything on the 9th. I have a question for you Wii Rock Band owners: how do the guitar and drum controllers hook up to the system? Do you plug them into the Wiimote, or is there another way? I only have 2 Wiimotes, and one of the nunchuks has gone missing, so I need to know what I will need for 2 players.

I am totally excited for it. Can't wait to sing some of my favorites. I hope they Sgt. Pepper the game with hidden images/words like people would find on the old albums. and some Paul is dead stuff. That would rock.

figured I'd bump this since the game is out. Me and the pals are loving this so far. For any Beatles fan, every song is great fun to play, but the harmonizing takes a bit of getting used to.
I especially love singing Octopus' Garden in my ringo voice while playing the drums :)

Indeed, my wife and I broke it out last night and played up to Shea Stadium (as a big Mets fan she was all about this). We're having lots of fun with it and I can't wait to see my mother in law play this one. I daresay she was more excited about this game coming out than we were!
