View Full Version : Mame on Acer Aspire one?
ok, i know i've asked about the suitability of this netbook to play retro titles in a previous thread, and thankyou for the replies. You tube videos show it runs most popular emulators up to and including N64 great.
Now i'm wondering if it can specifically play any version of Mame? i read of someone in the Acer Aspire one forums who was having problems getting it to run at all on apparently loads of different versions he had tried. Could it be the strange 1024 x 600 resolution maybe?
Anyway if anyone has had any actual experience of mame on a 'One' than i'd really appreciate your thoughts. It's just that this has ticked all the boxes but this last deal breaker!
Many thanks!

I run Mame32 0.91 on my AAO and it works fine. No slow down. Mame roms are a bit trick at times because every new version requires rom update. It is kinda stupid older Mame Roms cannot run on newer Mame.

Try this one:
http://mame32fx.altervista.org/home.htm
It supports multiple monitors and all sorts of crazy resolutions, so it seems like it would be the most compatible.

Just an FYI if you don't know already-
woot.com has an acer aspire one up for sale now at $289, not sure what the going rate for these usually is, but woot is great.

Very nice deal, though it's the model with the 8GB flash disk, and not a traditional hard disk. But it's new and not refurb, so that's pretty cool.

You want to get the 6-cell battery version so you can play up to 5 hours without charging. The 3-cell battery last up to 2 hours max. Also you can play some PC games. I've try Far Cry, Morrowind, Quake 3, Max Payne, GTA and they works decently. Far Cry is a bit slow, but still playable.

ScourDX, As you have an AAO and have used it for emulation, could you please expand with your impressions on it as a portable gaming system and delve into what emulators you have had running on it and with what success?
Have you attempted N64 emualation?
many thanks.

I can't speak to the Aspire One specifically, but my Eee 701 - with a Celeron at 600 MHz - can run circles around SuperFX SNES emulation. I haven't tried anything more taxing than that, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see great PS1 performance.

Ok I've tried couple of emulator. I updated MAME to 0.115.4 and it still runs fine. I haven't update to the newest MameUI32 0.128 because all NeoGeo roms don't list as available. Pretty weird.
Other emulator I've tested
SNES 9x (SNES Emulator) - Works
ZSNES (SNES Emulator) - Works
Gen (Genesis Emulator) - Works
FCEU (NES Emulator) - Works
Project64 (N64 Emulator) - Works and run at full 50-60FPS speed
Visualboy Advance (GBA Emulator) - Works
ePSXe (Playstation Emulator) - Works
