i have quite a few systems that would benefit in picture quality if i went from composite to svideo.i know the picture quality increases to an extent but not as good as RGB.i also know that these mods usually requier some circuitry
to be soldered in and sounds like quite a bit of work.
is it worth the work if composite gives a pretty good signal already?
my systems include
mod chipped PS2 currently svideo
Gamecube currently composite
Dreamcast currently composite
Nintendo64 currently composite
mod chipped Saturn currently composite
panasonic 3DO currently svideo
Super nes currently composite
Sega CD with 32X
and master system
converter currently composite
Genesis with MGH
floppy rom loader currently composite
Turbo grafx CD currently composite
Nes currently composite
im sure i can get svideo cables for some of the higher end stuff but i will have to look into it first.

I think so. I have a neo geo I had modded to svideo since the composite wasn't very good even for composite. I would do it on a genesis as well. I had a saturn and all I had to do was by an svideo cable, no need to mod. It makes a difference and is practical. If you have an hdtv (or even some non hdtvs) with component that'd be even better.

S-video is great. The rule of thumb I've read is that if you consider composite quality a 50 and RGB a 100, then s-video is around 90, almost as good.

Even Component looks good.

If you can do it, S-Video is always the best option outside of RGB. It is more of an improvement from Composite than you think. It's not as marginal as many say.
Earlier this year I had S-Video added to several of my consoles, and I can't believe I waited so long. The 16-Bit systems benefit the most. There is nothing quite like a Duo running in S-Video.
That said, you really do need a nice SD CRT to take advantage of any of this. Playing classic systems on an HD set is a waste of time.

No, Component is the best option outside of RGB. Component has a better picture than S-Video, period. Always will.
There! :p

The only consoles in your collection that require a mod are the Genesis, 32X and Turbografx. Well, the SNES too, if you happen to have a SNES Jr/Mini. The NES can't go above composite unless you hunt a Playchoice10 and take the RCP from it and replace the NES' RCP with it.
For the others you only need to buy a $2-$3 cable.

I couldn't find the original site of the mod (it's in the webpage of a French guy that has a lot of electronical projects, not just videogame mods), but here is a thread from NFG that discusses said mod:

It's an RGB mod for the NES, which involves hunting down a Playchoice10 (NES based arcade machine) and taking the RP2C03B from it and replacing the NES one with it.
After that you'll need an RGB to S-Video circuit:

NOTE: Change the Xtal value from 4.433619MHz (PAL) to 3.579545Mhz (NTSC).
