Released in Japan on October 30th 1987.

I really enjoyed my Duo R, it had some fabulous games. There's times when I still wish I had it for Gate & Winds of Thunder and Ninja Spirit. The Star Soldier series and PC Denjin / PC Genjin series still are highly playable and immensely good fun too.

I was really impressed with R-Type. I know it came out in Japan in 1988,
released on two seperate HuCards.

I didn't get my TurboGrafx-16 until October 1990, three years after PCE hit Japan.

Christmas Eve 1990 was very special for me, UPS delivered my free copy of R-Type that I had selected from the free-game-rebate that was offered.
I know I selected the best game on the list of the ones to choose from. R-Type was going for $69.99 at Toys 'R' US and Babbage's, it was the most expensive TurboGrafx-16 game!

I still have my Turbo Duo, Turbo Grafx 16, and Turbo Express! This series of systems has always been my all time favorite video game console. I still play games on it. Just had it out a week ago playing some of my favorite shoot'em ups.

Wow it has been that long? 21 years, my how time flies. :)

Happy Birthday to one of the most underrated systems of my generation. I was in Elementry School when the Pc Engine was release in Japan.

I bought a tg-16 in 2006. One of the Reasons I bought the system was the fact I am big fan of Shoot'em ups. It is becoming one of my favorite systems to play.

I am happy the vc has the Turbo CD games. I never owned a turbo CD or a Turbo Duo. A Turbo Duo is not exactly a cheap Used game system and has Durability issues.

Y's Book 1& 2, Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder are some of the greatest games I ever played.

It says a lot since I played over 600 games at least in my lifetime Starting with the Atari 2600.

Ah, and the Mega Drive just turned 20 a few days ago too. Handy.

Happy birthday PC-E! I bought my Turbo Duo in 99 and played catch-up with the great catalog of games the PC-E has to offer. Such memories.....Snatcher, Dracula X, the three Ys games, Bonk, Popful Mail, 3x3 Eyes, Dead of the Brain..so,so many more. *sigh* good, good times my friend *hugs his Turbo Duo*....

Happy birthday indeed! The console soared past the Famicom in Japan but failed here in the USA. But that doesn't matter. I love my TurboGrafx-16/CD! I still have my system and all the games. Hard to find used games to build my library as no one is willing to give up their old Turbo stuff (testiment to how great the console is!). My favorites on the system are KEITH COURAGE IN ALPHA ZONES, JJ & JEFF, YS BOOK I&II, FIGHTING STREET, NINJA SPIRIT, BRAVOMAN, TIGER ROAD, SIDEARMS, BLAZING LAZERS, DEVIL'S CRUSH, and the most awesome game on the system ... CHEW MAN FU!! Yes!

I can't believe it's 21 years old. That makes ME really old. I better get my will together.

Seriously, though, Y's Book I and II was the best thing in my life up until I lost my virginity, and that game couldn't have been done with that much style or be that complete on any other format. Three cheers to NEC for having the nads to venture into new territory by developing a CD-ROM. I almost miss the novelty of the "now loading..." screens and waiting 7 minutes between Valis levels.

Happy birthday, PC Engine. :) You haven't been in my life very long, but time has sure been sweet. Here's to another 21 years of gorgeous 2D graphics, rockin' soundtracks, and action-packed gameplay. Johnny Turbo would be proud... if he didn't die of cardiac arrest 15 years ago from a diet based around donuts. Things just weren't the same after Tony left him.

That picture is awesome :) It reminds me of my TGCD I sent to TZD for my Duo. the CD would load so hard, it would slowly walk itself off of my wire-shelf-things, slamming onto the floor :( It taught me that you could flick the CD player and get rid of Valis' terrible damn music, lol.

My first console ever was my TG16, and although I regretted it then (For ending up as the weird kid with a turbo), the used games were always cheap, and (unfortunately) it didn't take long for them to go on clearance at all the stores. So, what were cheap 10 dollar games back in the day, are the coolest games I have now.

Once I've beat the new releases of the week, the Duo comes back out.

I've always had a soft spot for the TG. Even though its life was rather short (here in the US), it had its fair share of top shelf titles and its shmup selection is second to none.

And I know I wasn't the only one picking their jaw up off the floor at the sight of the TurboExpress. The ability to play home console games on the go was the stuff of legend. Its price tag unfortunately brought about the exact same reaction.

Ahh, the PC Engine.

I remember reading all about it in a magazine a few months before (maybe even a year before?) the Turbografx 16 hit the states. I can't for the life of me remember which mag it was (Maybe EGM or Gamepro? Maybe something earlier?) and it had a nice spread all about the PC Engine and talks of it coming over to us. There were pics of "Victory Run" and "China Warrior". I remember them making a big stink about China Warrior because of the size of the characters (half the screen!) and the fact that the character gets "hurt" in the form of a bloody face. I remember thinking back then that these graphics were just incredible. This was something WAY new and something I just had to have.

I loved the look of that PC Engine. I remember calling game stores every day asking when the "PC Engine" was coming. Then came long the Turbografx 16.

I was a little dissapointed that the body style had changed so dramatically, but no so much to stop me from immediately purchasing the device the day of release. Brought it home and popped in the included "Keith Courage In Alpha Zones". WTF? Ok, cheesy side scroller with a Japanese anim type guy. Then to the end of the round. What to do now? Ahh, pushing up sends me into a rainbow. Now I'm a robot? COOL! First impression of the game was "ehh", but after some play it really wowed me. I love the game to this day honestly, and while many may rag on the pack-in, I think it was a good fit.

I kept buying games. I then snagged the CD-Rom attachment. My house was actually robbed around this time, and those crooks "tried" to steal my TG16/CD setup. They were scared off when my dad returned home, and never did get it. I guess they had no idea how to unhook it all, as all of the wires were half pulled out and stuff. The police had to dust print all over my entire setup, and then actually confiscated it for evidence (they caught the robbers...two of my "friends" from high school). I didn't get it back for half a year, and when I did it had all of this nasty white dust powder that just wouldn't come off....even with vigorous cleaning.

I sold it off for next to nothing, reluctantly. I now have a TG16 once again and am four games away from a complete USA set. I also have a converter to play the PC Engine titles I missed back then. It is (and always will be) my favorite game system of all time. Something about the feel of the games is just unlike anything else I have ever experienced. Such a great selection of titles. Great graphics and sound. I just love it.

Happy Birthday PC Engine!
