This is a very good question, a good enough question I hope someone answers..

I would love to see picture differences, if this is possible to mod.

I can't really comment on how doable it is, but HDMI is equivalent to DVI except for the sound (and DRM, I think).

I suppose you could add the connector and just have it pass the DVI connection, but i don't think you could do a "real" hdmi connection due to the HDCP (DRM).
