So I just bought a PSOne off eBay on a mad impulse buy, and remembered about the awesome LCD screens and battery packs you can get for them. I remember back in the day that I had a magazine feature where they went through and rated all the screens, and I wish I still had it!

Basically now that I have the little Playstation my mind is set on getting the LCD Screen and a battery pack, because it really is a cool little unit with all that gear. My main question is, which one do I get? I mean, from a search of the forums here the obvious answer is the official Sony screen, but were any of the third party alternatives any good? What about battery packs?

I'm in the UK, so I've been trying to find them at a decent price. There was an official one on eBay but it was factory sealed and so went for about £25 (which isn't bad to be fair, but I don't really care about it being sealed, I want it to work!). Is it just a case of keeping my eye on eBay until one shows up?

Even without repeated charging, rechargeable batteries only last a few years.

Even an un-opened/un-used PS1 rechargeable battery may not work properly and/or hold a charge.

That's a very good point...

Looks like it's just the screen then!

I also have a PSOne and the official PSOne screen. I've seen two other PSOne screens but neither of them seemed as vibrant (screen-wise) nor as asthetically pleasing as the official Sony one. So, obviously, the Sony one is my pick.

On a side note, my idiot brother used the wrong adapter once for the PSOne screen and blew out the screen for good :( I'm still looking for another Sony PSOne screen....

I have the inter-act Mobile Monitor.

It's a bit chunky compared to the Sony screen but it has nice resolution and super loud speakers.

It also has straight AV inputs on the back of it unlike the Sony one which needs a special cable for input.

If I had a choice I'd go with the Sony brand, but if you happen across the Inter-Act screen, for a super bargain, don't shy away.

I don't know why they bothered trying to make the PS1 portable.

The screen itself is fine, but the whole idea of using a battery. Not good.

Well the concept of a portable playstation was pretty awesome. everyone was making their consoles portable for awhile - there were Gamecube, PS2, XBOX screens... and batteries. I swear kids these days don't get carsick anymore. Growing up I was happy if I could read a book for more than 10 minutes without being ready to puke.

There really is only one choice.

The Sony Psone screen. I have tried all the others and none of them come close to the resolution, contrast, color or brightness of the Sony screen.

Don't waste your money on any others.

I haven't exactly shopped-and-compared, so I'm not going to slag off any of the other PSone screens, but I'm perfectly happy with the official Sony model. It has served very well for me over the years.

The batteries were a different story - very disappointing. Don't bother with that aspect of trying to make the machine portable.
