NES toploader problem

NEW PROBLEM
When I load games I have to push them backwards while I start it or it will just come up as a blue screen.

I tried it with yoshi's cookie, which is making me push back on it only when I power it up, then it plays fine, but with SMB3, I have to keep the cart pushed back the whole time I'm playing or it freezes...

How do I fix this?


OLD PROBLEM (FIXED)
Hey, I just bought a NES toploader at a garage sale, cleaned it out, and can't find any visible problems with it, but it won't work.

I opened it up and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.

The thing just isn't turning on. I have no way to test the cables or games I've tried it with because I have no other nes.

Does anyone know common problems for the that I could try and fix?

Thanks to the NES 2's lack of a power light, it could be the RF Cord or Power Cord. The screen usually turns blue if it is a cart problem, so if you are getting nothing that is not the case.

If you have any other older game console, you should be able to use that RF cable. Other power cords may also work, but just make sure they match up in specs.

Does the video signal to the TV change at all when the unit is switched on or off? Reset?

I had one a long time ago, It wouldn't even power on. I didn't know what was the problem I had other power cords and rf's but that didnt do the trick....I ended up just selling it for $20 or so.

People at ben heck forums told me to use a multimeter on the power cord and the capacitators, which told me I needed a new power cord. I'm using a lap top charger now and it works fine. Since I'm only very capable of doing the easy stuff, that's all I can recommend. I recently had one that just wouldn't load games. Black screen that would maybe give a flicker when I powered it on, don't remember for sure. I cleaned the contacts with very fine grit (250?) sand paper pulled over a credit card, then some alcohol on paper pulled over a cc. Works like a champ now.

Like I said, I just do what's easy, dunno if that's your problem. I suggest it only because people tend to think of the NES2 as not needing the contacts cleaned, but I've found otherwise.

I've always thought that problem was caused by the NES carts not being designed to be loaded in the top. Not too sure if there is a real way to fix that if it is the case. You'll just have to keep playing around with the cartridge.

I already thoroughly cleaned the contacts with some rubbing alcohol, but I'll go get some sandpaper and try that tomorrow.
