I finally got around to finishing up my Sega Genesis Model 1 mods that I started a couple months ago. I upgraded it with composite and stereo rca jacks, S-Video, overclock to 9.8 mhz, and bi-color led.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what are the benefits of overclocking the genesis?

Less slowdown in titles that used to suffer from it.

It helps with the Sonic games. Check out this youtube video..

One of my favorite Genny game Mega Turrican suffers all kinds of flicker and sound problems when overclocked. Truxton also suffers from some flicker. The Flintstones seems to run fine but sometimes will lock up at random times. Also when using the halt switch games sometimes will lock up.
There was a whole long thread the nerds over at Slashdot created a couple years ago talking about overclocking the Genesis. Interesting read.. if you have the patience.

Liked the read, but SRAM stands for Static RAM, not Saved RAM. ;)
