I got around to framing and hanging, what I consider, some of the best Famicom Handbills that I have.
I think it turned out real nice.. what do you all think?!
You can also see the rest of the Handbills that I don't have framed here:

Very nice. I'm curious about these "handbills" since I've never seen them before. Were they included with Famicom games or something?

Not games, but a few were distributed in some Famicom and/or Disk Systems. Most of them were given out in Japanese game stores 20+ years ago to promote the sale of said game.
A lot of the ones I have on my wall are quite rare and cost a bit of money. Super Mario USA being probably the rarest. This title was made in 1992 well after the SNES release in Japan and therefore didn't get many flyers printed.
I have some in my store if anyone wants to start their own collection.

They're beautiful!
(For anyone who wants to do it the cheaper way, just get a bunch of old Japanese magazines, and cut out any good-looking ad page. :) )

Also, I don't think some of the ads in old Japanese magazines are near as good looking! ;)

Ah, very cool. Somehow I was never aware of this. I have been collecting various arcade flyers over the years so I'm not too surprised with the prices, more desirable arcade flyers also fetch similar figures.
I've considered framing some of my own arcade flyers and I am assuming your handbills are the standard flyer size (8.5x11 inches), so I'm curious.. Where did you get your frames? More importantly, how much did they cost?

They are indeed standard A4 international paper size (8.25" x 11.75" -- slightly different than our letter size here in the US)
I got my frames at Michaels Craft Store. They are called float frames (size 11" x 14") and cost $16.99 each + tax.

Maybe you'd like to donate Castlevania, CV2 Simon's Quest, Ninja Gaiden 2, and the Dragon Warrior ones to me? ^_^
Jk. But yeah. I love those games so who wouldn't want to have them. Always been a big Dragon Warrior and Castlevania fan.

I am a pretty big DW/DQ fan myself. I do have an extra DQ flyer in my store at www.famicomshop.com if you are interested in purchasing. The DQ flyers are 4 page fold-outs and actually have a map in the middle.

Dude, that is so awesome.
I'm going to break down and buy some from you one of these days. I'd like to start my own little collection. I love the look that a mature collector can bring.
You sir, have done a fine job. I love it.
By the way, how much did that Mother handbill set you back. Quite a few I'm sure.

What the hell. I couldn't resist. I bought the Dig Dug 2 handbill from your site. Can't wait to set it up!

I hate to beg...but is there any chance you could scan some of the Dragon Quest stuff? You took nice pictures of them on your page there at least....but manual scans would be so awesome. Even the Japanese boxart doesn't seem to be available online in decent quality. Don't even get me started on wanting to see the art in that guidebook, heh.

And for those of you interested in framing stuff, most places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Joanne's periodically run 50% off of frames. When they're not on sale, there is usually an online printable coupon for ~40% off any one regular priced item.
<-- Also been framing VG stuff recently :D

The Mother one wasn't TOO expensive, but definitely more than any of the ones I have in my shop. If I found another it would probably run $90-$100.

I have a few SMB2j ones left in my store (www.famicomshop.com). At $35 they are some of the cheaper flyers of the more popular games. That is because they are fairly common as they were distrubted both in stores and sometimes packaged with the FDS.
That is very nice looking.

I'll see what I can do after the Holidays are over. Time is scarce though as my wife and I just welcomed our son into our lives 11 weeks ago.
And I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday and New Year!

One thing I've been wanting to know is about the rarity of handbills. Before this, I've never even seen these anywhere anyway, but now that I have been exposed to them, I see very little info about them online.
How rare are we talking here? I love these things now, and I want all I can get, but should I be shitting myself over Mother or Super Mario USA?
How does the rarity compare to video games themselves?

Handbills are usually much more rare than the video games themselves, because they're just paper that most people threw away.

As boatofcar said below, handbills are usually MUCH, MUCH rarer than the games themselves for the simple reason that most people did throw them away. It was also a lot easier to keep a video game safe and clean than a piece of paper over the last 20+ years. If they weren't thrown away by kids, they were likely destroyed in some shape or form.
Should you shit yourself over Mother or Mario USA? I'd definitely say yes to Mario USA. As of now, from the research I've done and can gather, this is probably at the tops of the rarity/price list with Doki Doki Panic not far behind. In the year and a half I've been collecting these, not including the 6 months prior just watching, I've only ever seen 1 Super Mario USA handbill. Which, thankful to say, is now in my collection. Even after talking to other handbill collectors, they'd had never seen another; nor own one. They'd all just seen the scan floating around the Internet like I had.
Here is my top 6 rarest/priciest (in somewhat of an order)
1) Super Mario USA
2) Doki Doki Panic
3) Makaimura
4) Vs. Excitebike
5) Rockman
6) Guevara
Keep in mind there are lots of flyers in the next category down from these, and a lot of them can still cost $80-$150. (Dracula, Dracula 2, Rockman 2, Mother, SMB3, SMB, etc all would fall there)
Hope this helps a little.
Thanks,
Carl
