Wii owners can look forward to some slightly-more-adequate web browsing real soon now if this rumored upgrade to Opera is on the money.

Version 2.0 - as revealed to GameReactor - will feature a new button layout for the virtual navigation bar and will be Wii Speak compatible. Users will be able to use a built-in mail client to access their Wii Mail. Tabbed browsing will be supported by a floating 'tab cube' that will show thumbnails of up to 6 open tabs.

The browser should be available for 500 Wii Points, but existing owners should be able to get a free upgrade once the app is released in December.

Cool. The Wii's Opera web browser is surprisingly good. Tabbed browsing will make it even better. How about a Flash player update, too?

For a while I was using the Wii for it's browser more than for it's games. This update is very welcome (provided I'm not being charged again for it) and tabbed browsing will make it a worthwhile improvement.

Does anyone know if the Wii browser offers mouse support? I use a wireless keyboard but I've never tried using a wireless mouse (cos I don't have one).

I doubt it will, but I hope it includes Flash 9 support so Hulu will work.
