For a NES collector like me, is one of the more exciting piece !

The NES Games Store Display

Is was used in the very first days of the NES to show off games in stores (up to 12 titles available) and you can switch the selection with a button. On the back, there a timer to "limit" the gaming time.

It's really rare.

Where do you get them ?

Memories... i remember playing on that thing in Sears when I was a kid, and it always pissed me off cuz the damn timer would always screw me up...haha :) I would LOVE to have that thing!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

Wow, that's really cool. I remember those things. I would think that, to a true collector, the price he asking is definitely worth it, however I can't afford it. I can just imagine that becoming the centerpiece of someone's collection. Plus, if you turned the timer off, you could have twelve nes games ready to play at any time. HOw cool is that?

Joe has one, and I believe one or two other people on here have one. 400 Euro dollars is WAY WAY WAY overpriced in my opinion though.

It is the Nintendo M82. I got mine on ebay six months ago for $225. 400 Eur is way too much, plus it is most likely a PAL unit.

Right, I wasn't paying attention to the fact that that was in Euros, whoops. :embarrassed: How much does 400 euros translate to anyway?

$459.682.

I don't know what they go for, but it seems like alot. I'd be cool to own one, but I already got way too many things on my wishlist.

That's really cool. I'm into promo-type things so I would love to get my hand on one, but at the most I would fork over $200.00 for one.

Yeah, the legendary M82...and here's something to think about: the demo units you see at Walmart (or whatever store is in your part of the world,) and their disks might sometimes be different. I thought so, anyways.

I have one of those. A friend of mine sold it to me when it came into his store. I won't tell you how much, but it was cheap compared to some of the numbers you all are floating around. There are 3 controller hookups inside. One for player 1, one for player 2 and a 3rd one for the Zapper. A small metal hanger was mounted on the side to hold the Zapper. An internal adjustment controlled how long it would play before resetting.

I used mine for quite a while when my son was first learning to play games. He wasn't allowed to switch games himself on other systems and would want games switched frequently. So I rigged this up with 12 of his style of games and he could switch at his leisure.

Man I remember those things! This was my first introduction to the NES! I first saw it in a Highland appliance store (anyone in MI remember those?), but it was on a little pedestal. It was playing Ice Climber and I was instantly hooked! I begged my mom to get me one for almost a year before she gave it (I was still playing my Atari 400). Ahh memories…

Hello,

I finally got one from these M82 PAL units. And have try it a bit. Some questions, can it be, that some games are not working on this Instore unit?

Here some games, which make problems on my unit:
Castlevania 2 - freeze or reset to the titlescreen from the game after some seconds play.
Castlevania 3 - extrem grafic errors, unplayable
Caveman Ninja - Joe & Mac - first it has work, after I try it again, it has only extrem grafic errors. Don't know why it will not work anymore.
Die Schöne und das Biest (The Beauty and the Beast) - nothing, no titlescreen no game work
Parodius - small grafic errors
The Newzealand Story - extrem grafic errors, near unplayable. When I walk to the right, the next screen is only black. Can't see the way anymore.

Someone else have problems with some games? Or is this only by the PAL unit?
Someones here has a PAL unit, where he can try it?

PS: Why it start always by game 2, when I turn it on? Is this correct?

That's the M82 Unit used in stores. I've never seen one though, but I don't live in a city anyways.

Man, I almost got one for $75, to be outbid in the last seconds (that auction site didn't have proxy bids at that moment).

I've always wanted one of these! The first time I saw one of these was in K-B Toys (I think) in a mall near my house. Whenever my mom would take me out with her I used to beg her to leave me at the Nintendo unit so I could play that until she was done shopping.

@Tempest I remember Highland electronics. I got my first TV from that place. :)

My auction not. And the first posted here are only too old. After 90 day (I think) eBay delete the auctions. So they are just gone, but end normal.

Looks great. Mine looks not so good. It miss the holder for the Zapper. Don't know if there was one by the PAL version.
Many screws are rosted. And a scratch at the top.

But it is full working, except some games, which has problems. I think it is the M82, which is not 100% compatible.

A great Collector Item at all, and I like it.

PS: Which games are inside in your M82? I have these inside:
1 - Bubble Bobble
2 - Castlevania
3 - Solomon's Key
4 - Adventure Island II
5 - Der König der Löwen
6 - Dr. Mario
7 - Ice Climber
8 - Kickle Cubicle
9 - Marable Madness
10 - Snake Rattle'n Roll
11 - Zelda 1
12 - Zelda 2

But I will change it, when I get some more games, then I will have these inside, when they work.
Bubble Bobble
Castlevania
Dr. Mario
Ice Climber
Kickle Cubicle
Metroid
Snake Rattle'n Roll
Super Mario Bros 1 / Tetris / World Cup Soccer
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Zelda 1
Zelda 2

I thought this forum supported keeping old topics alive? Now I'm confused. I usually see people getting flamed for opening new threads for topics already discussed.

Besides this was an interesting read. I wonder how many people actually have one of these.

Well considering XxMe2NiKxX has 96 posts I'd say it's probably a bad habit from another less tolerant forum.

-Tritium

We do support old topics, it's better than having a dozen topics about the same thing. That tends to suck when you want to do a search and information is riddled across time and space. So in this case, Mr. M82 made a great decision and exercised his use of the search function. He may very well be this year's Rookie of the Year!

Old topics that should not be bumped include things relevant to a particular time or event. I saw one of those pop up this week, that's just disorienting.

HATE. Why do you HATE it? It keeps things organized. New members are not getting "slammed", they're being directed to the answers they seek.

An M82 with the original 12 games seems WAY awsome, especially since they have "property of Bandai" stickers on them. I would think that one of the hard core NES collectors around here would pay a lot of $ for that package.

Maybe this is a Pal vs NTSC issue?

I remember there was an odd NES system that took these strange black cartridges...same shape as NES carts but black, and I think they had black and white labels. Which NES system was that? I know it wasn't the Playchoice 10 because I have a bunch of PC10 games and they are just PCBs.

That's a very cool find for a Nintendo collector, and worth every cent if you enjoy it. I also think I remember playing one of those in a store (maybe Child World), but I'm not sure if it was one of those. That kinda reminds me of that thing that was released for the Genny that held six games and lets you switch between them.

right if you wanna play ntsc games on a pal version or vice versa here is a cheat for you to try, open up the m82 and you will find a chip on the circuit board with 3196a nintendo written on it, pull this chip out and bend out the forth pin from the left on the bottom row and refit the chip!! instant result!!
the other way would be to open up a standard ntsc console and desolder the same chip and swap them over, same result! i have tried and tested this on my non multi region m82 and it works, i also have castlevania in one of my m82's and it plays fine!

I really love these things. I wish I had one. A few questions..

First, is the NES built-in? Or is it separate with a special Cartridge adapter that plugs into the NES? I'd love to have one so I could have my 12 favorite games at hand easily.

Second, is there a way to turn OFF the time? I see 128 minutes. But can it be turned off? I'd rather not have my game shut off.

Kick ass. I really want one.
