I've noticed over the last couple days that ebay no longer shows you the name of the person who won an auction, just the same two letters with stars. So now nobody has any idea who I am when I beat them in the last 2 seconds of an auction. Likewise, I can no longer scout competition thru viewing winners of previous auctions. I'm guessing this is another step in their "grand sceme" of bidder privacy, what ever that means. So it looks like we all just have to be invisible from now on:sob:

Actually, this is something that should have always been in place. It's not like you would be telling everybody your name in a real auction after you had won it. I can't tell you how many times I had received an email from an angry bidder...angry that I won the auction in the last few seconds. I'd rather not have people know that I won the auction personally.

I try not to use ebay. I was seeing some bidding that was questionable at best with certain sellers. Then it appeared sellers used numerous accounts and trying to keep up was not worth it.

Yeah, I used to do that all the time. I know for a fact that several DP members have sniped me on great auctions, just as I've probably sniped them. It was fun doing research on the current high bidder to see his bidding patterns and if there was a certain amount he wouldn't go over, or if he only bid in even dollar amounts or something.

My brother had that happen once. The buyer was so mad that she called him a "c*nt" for snipping. It was funny... :)

personally i liked to know my competition but with the growing amount of idiots on ebay I do understand why their doing this. I have no idea however why you would email someone that they sucked cause they bought something that you were bidding on. yea i've been sniped and it sucks but if i had wanted something i would just had a higher bid.

I guess I'm immune. The only time people use to email me after I won an auction was to tell me how much they wanted the item and that they would pay me good money if I sold it to them. And to be honest, I've done this once or twice myself, but there was never any form of harrassment or disrespect displayed by myself or the other bidders.
And there were other practical uses for emailing bidders. I once won a lot of demo disc(about 15 total) where I only needed three of the disc. As soon as I won the auction I emailed the second highest bidder and told him I would sell him the lot at a few dollars cheaper than what I won it for because I only needed three of the demos and he accepted the offer. So I guess I'm in the minority of people that wish they still showed bidder names:(
