The sega cd has naturally weak lazers so that's always a problem. Are you sure you are using the correct model power cord for your sega cd? My CDX for example has the bigest power cord ever even though it's the smallest version sega cd.

Try cleaning the lens with a qtip. If that does not solve your problem. try tweaking the pot a bit to see if the laser manages to spool data off the CD.

If still nothing, replace the lens assembly.

the power supply is fine, it boots up suprisingly and i just stare at the cd control screen wishing i could play it

I've only ever opened one console, that was my nes, are there any special precautions i would have to take with opening this?

oh i forgot to mention its the model one sega cd that looks like a vcr

Careful.

Some have a KSS 240a laser.. Incompatible..

I just got a Sega CD model on in. I too am having problems with getting it to read discs. It will work sometimes, but I have to try closing the tray several times. It usually just spits the disc out without even trying to read it, almost like the tray isn't signaling a close properly. Funny thing is, if I close it by hand (just giving a tiny push so the tray will retract) it will work almost every time. Anything to fix this?

That replacement cost more than an entire Sega CD on the bay, does it not?

Yeah, but just how much uptime have Sega CD's had? It's not like there's a great deal worth playing on it.
