Thats a shocker: http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/guitar-hero-rock-band-players-showing-increased-interest-in-real-instruments/?biz=1

I think this survey will go a long way to showing the positive influence that video games have over people. As for me, I sucked at Guitar Hero. Theres no way I'm going to try the real thingLOL

Nearly three out of four (72%) musicians who play games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band have spent more time playing their real instrument(s) since they began playing these games.

hmm, i wonder why

I used to play drums, so playing drums is not bad on this. The problem with this is the notes. When I played the drums, I had to be pretty precise, but if I was off with my sticks a little bit, no big deal. In this game, you have to play it the way they say.

A snare with very little bounce back = video game.

Don't get me wrong, look at my gamerscore, I fucking love this game.

Anybody with a real instrument realizes what they are missing and goes off to play the real thing.

Yeah I can see it making people get interested in playing.. and yes that's a good thing. Why not :)

I've been playing guitar pretty much all my life (my mom taught me LOL) but yeah you just can't get the two of them confused. One I play as a videogame, and the other... well, it is what it is :p

and Wii Music makes more people interested in Rock Band and Guitar Hero. It's crazy!

The closest I have gotten to a guitar besides using one to try and get laid (not playing, but pretending) has been guitar hero and rock band.

Drums, on the other hand, it is not super close, but somebody who has never played drums before could get very confused.

I have tried many times throughout my life to learn how to play an instrument. Acoustic guitar at age 10, electric guitar at 16, bass at 18, keyboard at 20, electric guitar at 22, and after seeing (in gameinformer of all places) Fretlight Guitars in a holiday gift guide, have opted to give electric guitar another shot at 23.

So I currently own enough instruments to make a band (3 guitars, bass, keyboards, electronic drums if you want to cound the rock band drum kit and a computer... a stretch I know), yet I can't play anything. I also don't sing too great ;)

It's not that these games inspired me to play anything because I tried to learn way before they came out, but when I'm sitting playing Guitar Hero or something and realize that I am wasting time when I could try to learn how to play something for "real."

Guitar Hero semi-inspired me to play the banjo. The main influence thought was Modest Mouse and the song King Rat.

I've always wanted to own a drum kit and play but sadly have never had the space (or the people around me willing to deal with the noise) so having rock band is nice. When I get my own place (hopefully with a good distance from neighbors) I will get my drum kit and personal arcade :)

All the Best Buy stores here have rolled out an instruments room recently. I'm thinking it must be related to the fact that they have an entire row dedicated to bulk-stacking Rock Band and Guitar Hero set-ups.

I find myself more inspired to play guitar after playing Rock Band for about 45 minutes. I'll play something like Simple Man or Under the Bridge, and think "I should go play this [since I know how to]" and I do. Both are fun, although I enjoy guitar more.

And, guitar impresses the ladies. Or something.
